I had so much fun doing the I spy Book Challenge last month, that when I saw this tag I knew I had to do it.  With a little research, I found that the creator (maybe) is The Library of Sarah.  I originally saw it on Busy Raising Wild Things, who had some good answers.

Zombies Vs Unicorns edited by Holly Black

 

This is a collection of short stories by some of the best YA authors around.  If I remember correctly it started as a fight, er discussion on Twitter about which were scarier.  Some of the stories are quite hilarious and some are just a tad disturbing, but a great collection that will have you picking sides.

A Classic

Does Lord of the Rings count as a classic?  I could have sworn I have a copy of Pride and Prejudice somewhere, but I can’t seem to find it.

A Key or Keyhole

In truth this is not on my bookshelf, but on my son’s.  And I have not read it.  He read the first book in the series Incarceron and really liked it, so I got him the second book.  I don’t think he has read it though. It is a series that I have wanted to find the time to read though. And isn’t that a fabulous cover?

Oldest Book

The Selected Works of A. Conan Doyle

This one is old in two ways, original publication date (1890’s) and the actual book is quite old.  It belonged to my Dad when he was a kid, so 1940’s maybe.  I can’t find the date anywhere in the book unfortunately.  I couldn’t get a decent cover shot of it, but it is a red fabric cover with gold embossed lettering.  Very faded, but one of my most cherished books.  If my house caught on fire, this is the book I would grab first.

Berserker by Emmy Laybourne

 

I just purchased this one this month.  I haven’t read it yet, but I have seen lots of good reviews and I have liked this author’s other works.  I think I have the second in the series as an e-arc through Netgalley which is one of the reasons I bought it. I am intrigued by a wild west setting with magic and vikings!

Book With an Animal on the Cover

Embers of Destruction by J. Scott Savage

 

Dragons are animals!  It didn’t say the animal has to be real.  This is the third book in a Middle Grade series that I have really enjoyed.  I brought this one home to read over the summer, but I haven’t had a chance yet.  I hope to soon.

I have been enjoying the Trials of Apollo books and I got this one back at the start of summer, but have yet to read it.  Too many others ahead of it on the list.  But Apollo is a great character!

A Book With Illustrations Inside

The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo

 

I could spend a week talking about the illustrations in this book, they are just absolutely gorgeous!  Even if you have no interest in the book, check out the illustrations.  Each illustration builds as the story is told, and they even help tell the story.  The stories were all amazing as well.

A Book With Gold Lettering

TimeKeeper by Tara Sims

Funny story about this one, well not really funny.  I read a review about it one day last month and thought to myself, this sounds like a book I would like.  So I added it to my TBR and then later that day, I was in a used book store and they had a copy of it on display.  So I figured it was fate and I bought it.  Haven’t read it yet!!! But still the book fairy must want me to have it, otherwise why keep putting it in my path?  The gold is a lot shinier than in this photo, but it’s still a beautiful cover!

Double points for both names being common???  I have a couple of his books, and I don’t think I have read either.  But I have read some of his other works.

Earliest Time Period

Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel

 

Can’t get any earlier than prehistoric, can you?  Loved the first three books the third was okay, but the last one was just way to long and boring!  I really like this cover too!

Hardcover without a Jacket

The Hobbit By JRR Tolkien

 

This was probably the hardest one to come up with.  But I finally remembered that I have a leather bound copy of The Hobbit.  My brother gave it to me when we were in our teens, probably the nicest gift he ever gave me.  It also has some great full color illustrations inside by Tolkien.

Teal or Turquoise Cover

Thunderhead by Neal Schusterman

 

Another one I struggled with,  these colors are hard for me to define, mostly because what I see as one of them other people say is green.  Can I be teal color challenged?  I finally decided on this one.  Is it teal? Green?  I don’t know!  Plus I can’t spell turquoise!

Stars on the Cover

The Last Girl on Earth by Alexandra Blogier

 

We are going to pretend that those white spots are stars.  Plus it has a lot of pretty colors to look at too.  Good book, not what I expected though from the title.  More of a romance than sci-fi.

Not a YA Book

Big Red Tequila by Rick Riordan

Yes that Rick Riordan.  Before Percy Jackson, he wrote adult detective mysteries.  Seven of them in fact.  I only have three of them.  I found out about them when I saw him talk about how he came up with the idea for Percy and I scoured the used book stores for them.  They are hard to find, as I think they are now out of print.  But they are really good if you are into that genre.
