Favorite Friend Groups

“We’ve discussed bromances before but let’s discuss our favorite ensemble friend groups!”

It has been a few weeks since I did one of these and I will admit this week’s topic was sort of a hard one for me.  Partly because I wanted to come up with some different books than what I think everyone else will mention (Any guesses as to how many time Six of Crows will show up?).  I finally had to give up on thinking of any groups where no one was involved romantically with someone, it just wasn’t possible.  But I think I came up with a good group of books.  Ones with nice ensemble casts that will always have each others backs, whether they want to or not.

1. Zeroes by Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan and Deborah Biancotti

zeroes-final-cover-450“Zeroes they call themselves.  Like heroes, but not.”

This group of six friends don’t always get along with each other.  But they have some super cool powers and they are out to save the world or at least themselves.

2. The Diviners by Libba Bray

The Diviners

A more unlikely group of friends I think than anything else out there.  They all have a supernatural ability that ties them together.  They are an unlikely group but a strong one at their best.  I also love the 1920’s New York City setting.

3.  The Illuminae Files by  Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Obsidio

I’m mainly thinking of the last book, Obsidio.  This group of friends spend most of the books separated by space, by they are still a group who will go to the ends of the universe to save each other.  If you haven’t read it yet, it is also one of those series that will stay with you.

4. Invictus by Ryan Graudis

Invictus

Time pirates, you have got to love that.  This is also a pretty eclectic group, they all have their strengths and weaknesses which is what makes them such a good team.  The time travel was done so well and the story was excellent.  Am I the only one hoping for a sequel?

5. The Summoner Series by Taran Matharu

the novice

This was the only series that I could come up with that there was nothing romantic between the friends, not for the lack of trying on Fletchers part.  They spend a lot of the series fighting for their lives, so no time for romance.  I also really enjoyed the magical system and the world the author created here.

Well I am certainly looking forward to seeing what everyone else will come up with.  As always stop by the Goodreads Group to see everyone’s list.  Next’s weeks topic is another good one, so until then.
