Top Five Wednesday-Favorite Monsters

Top 5

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Lainey at GingerReads and Samantha at Thoughts on Tomes.  You can find the group on Goodreads.

This week’s topic is favorite monsters.  We were given the choice to go scary or not,  and my brain thought about how Hagrid looks at monsters.  So I was thinking my theme would be, monsters that are seriously misunderstood. I tried to stay with creatures, as opposed to ones that are humanoid.

1. Cereberus

CerberusThis three headed dog shows up in various books.  Sometimes he is friendly and in others he is quite ferocious.  But how can you not like a dog that falls asleep to music,(Harry Potter) or loves to play fetch? (Percy Jackson)

2. Hellhounds

Mrs._O'LearyOkay, so the ones on Supernatural are quite terrifying, but if you have ever met Mrs. O’Leary (Percy Jackson) you know how cute and friendly they can be.  Or perhaps you prefer the mongrel Dog belonging to Adam Young? (Good Omens)

3. Wyverns

The Girl who cicumnavigated

Wyverns tend to get a bad rep as nasty creatures, but there are good ones out there.  Such as the Honorable Wyvern A-through-L.  Plus he is a Wyverary, or perhaps a Lyvern or Libera, anyways he loves books which makes him okay in my book.  (This book also gets the prize of longest title ever!)

4. Baba Yaga’s House

Baba_Yaga's_Hut

How can you not like a house that stands on chicken legs?  Ok it is hard to find examples of this creature being good, but it isn’t exactly nasty either.  Plus I think it would be kind of fun to live in.  I remember reading one version of the original stories maybe where the house did help the little girl, I just can’t come up with the title.  If anyone knows, please let me know in the comments.

5. Daemons or demons perhaps.

The Outcast

I’m not talking about the type of demons that possess you, but the little creatures that sometimes show up in books that are more like little familiars.  They stick by their owners through thick and thin, and will even sadly die for them.  Sometimes they can look very scary, but they are always loved.  The two books I am particularly think about for this are the His Dark Materials books and the Summoner series.

Well I hope you like my list.  What monster do you think have been seriously misunderstood?
As always stop by the GoodReads group to see what others have come up with.
