Monthly Wrap-Up — May 2019

monthly wrap up

May was both a very long month and a very short one at the same time.  It seemed to drag by, but now I am wondering how it could possibly be over?

It was a pretty good month reading wise.  I managed to get 14 books read.  I was pretty surprised at that number, because one of the books just seemed to take forever for me to finish.  I also managed to get more than one audio book done this month which helped.

Sorry that my blogging and connecting with all of you, has been a bit hit or miss lately.  The end of the school year is always trying, and I am so exhausted when I get home that I don’t have the energy for much.  I will try to get to more of your blogs next month and see what you have all been up to.

Adult Books

I really enjoyed three of these. Early Riser was a bit a slog.  I kept putting it aside to read other things.  But once I finally committed myself to it, I was able to get it done quickly.  That is also the only one I haven’t written a review for.  Not sure if I will do a full one or a mini-review as my final verdict on it was that it was just okay.  Of the other three, both Reaper Man and Broken Homes would tie as my favorites.  The Chef was also quite good but it will make you hungry.

Young Adult

Going Off Script was my one contemporary this month and it was pretty good.  I really enjoyed The Bone Charmer.  It was quite the different story, with the character following two different paths.  The Chosen, I haven’t gotten around to writing a review for.  Hopefully next week as that is when it comes out.  It was really good and isn’t that cover just stunning?  Trail of Lightning was a re-read before I tackled Storm of Locusts.  I was glad I did decide to re-read it as I had forgotten so much.  So far I am just loving the second book.

Middle Grade

All three of these books were excellent and will be finding their way to my school library.  Camp Shady Crook was fun and will be a good summer book recommendation.  A Box of Bones was a very sweet story about believing in yourself and the power of stories.  Silver Batal and the Water Dragon Races is also really good.  Another one that the review will be up next week.  And another amazing cover.

It has been awhile that I got three audiobooks done in a month.  The Pants Project was pretty short which helped.  I liked it, but I wished it had a different narrator.  Blink and Caution was one of the first books offered in this year’s SYNC free audio book deals and it was really good too.  It was a hard one to put down.  Ghosts of the Shadow Market had some good stories, but it was not my favorite of the short story collections.

What’s up for June!

These are the three ARC’s from Netgalley that I need to read.  I usually read them in order of when they come out, but I am really excited to read DEV1AT3, so I might do that one first.  I have been debating about re-reading LIFEL1K3 first, so we will see.

I’m about half way through the first audio book for the Shattered Realm series, Flamecaster.  I read this when it first came out, but after the second book I decided to wait till the last book came out to finish the series.  This will be my summer series this year.

I just started Storm of Locusts and I love it so far.  After I am done with that I’m not sure what I will read next, but I did just pick up The Near Witch by V.E. Schwab, and I am kind of itching to read it.  Although I might decided to read something not fantasy too.

That was my month.  I hope you all a good reading month too.  Any suggestions for what to read this summer?
