2019 Books I Still Haven’t Read

Wow, it is hard to believe that the year is almost over! It has been a very good year for books, so many good ones it will be hard to choose which ones to include in my 2019 recap at the end of December. Plus I still haven’t read many of the books that have come out this year. Yikes!

I decided to go through the books that I own that I still haven’t read and prioritize them. I used these criteria to help me sort through them all.

  • No recent releases. I have so many from the beginning of the year that I still need to read, that I decided to look only at those.
  • Only books from my stack that were published in 2019 (Yes I have lots from last year that I still haven’t read, but I needed to draw the line somewhere.)
  • Choose shorter books. This was not an absolute, but if it was a choice between a super long book and something shorter, I went with shorter.

With all of that in mind, these are the top 5 books that I want to read before the end of the year.

Once & Future by Amy Rose Capetta and Cori McCarthy

I picked up an ARC for this book back in January at the ALA conference. I have considered reading it many times over the year, but I think I will push to get it done now. I always enjoy a good Arthur retelling and this one has an interesting premise plus it is in the future and in space. Awesome!

The Similars by Rebecca Hanover

Clones have always intrigued me and stories about using them as replacements to real people even more so. Plus the elite school setting makes it even more interesting to me. Then of course the sequel is coming out in January, so no time like the present to read it!

No Exit by Taylor Adams

One of my worst nightmares is being caught out in a blizzard. Then add in a good dose of child kidnapping and a possible murderer and you have a good mix for a perfect winter nights read.

The Wicked King by Holly Black

Nope still haven’t read this one. I heard back when it was published that it had a wicked cliff hanger at the end, so I made the decision to wait until closer to the final book being published to read it. Well that book came out yesterday, so I guess I better get cracking on this one. But I might need to read the first one again, so many books so little time.

The Near Witch by V.E. Schwab

So, this one may be a bit of a cheat. It first came out in 2011, but then went out of publication and was republished this year. I’m counting it, because this is my list and I can. Plus I really want to read it and I didn’t get to it in October like I wanted too. And I haven’t read any other books by this author this year, so there you go.

So what books do you still want to read that you haven’t had time for this year?

  1. Great list of books! I still have No Exit, Wicked King and The Near Witch to read as well 🤣 I was planning on reading half of those last month but… That didn’t happen. I definitely want to get to these before the year ends too! Hope you manage to read them 🙂
