Classics I wish had modern adaptations!
Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme run by Sam at Thoughts on Tomes and was created by Lainey at Ginger Reads. You can find the weekly themes on Goodreads.
This one was kind of tough for me. Every classic I came up with initially I was like, nope someone already did that. Hmph! But I did finally come up with five.
1. The Three Musketeers by Alexander Dumas
This was always been one of my favorite classics, and yes I have read the original. There have been a lot of adaptations on TV and in movies for this one, but they always stick to the time period that the book takes place in. I would like to see it maybe set in space or even maybe a fantasy with some dragons of course!
2. Twelve Dancing Princesses By the Brothers Grimm
This was my favorite fairy tale when I was young. Something about it spoke to me. I would love to see a modern take on this one. I could totally see this one as an urban fantasy, where the girls run off to a night club run by the fae. Or maybe a murder mystery, a girl killed every night. So many choices!
3. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne
I think this is another one just screaming to be updated. I could see a more modern steampunk version or even a space version. I think this one could also be an awesome TV series, like Star Trek but underwater, or maybe alternate universes.
4. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Lewis Stevenson
I can’t remember for sure if I ever read this one, but the story has always intrigued me. Definitely want to see this one as an urban fantasy. It could be very dark and involve lots of shady supernatural characters.
5. Black Beauty by Anna Sewell
I think this one might have some modern adaptations, but I’m thinking that it should be taken into the fantasy realm and have Beauty be a shape shifter or even a Pegasus. Or maybe a something more science fictiony with AI and robots? Hmmm.
So these are ones that I have never run across retellings of. If there is one out there please tell me in the comments. As always, please stop by the Goodreads Group to see what other people have come up with.
Ohhh yes, I love to watch an adaptation of 12 Dancing Princesses! The only one I’ve watched is the barbie version, and it’s my favorite barbie movie! ❤

I have not seen that. I’m glad to hear they did it justice.

Oooh! Great list!! I’d love to see a retelling of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne as well!

Seriously why is no one redoing Jules Verne?
