Confession:
First off, just in case you didn’t know this, there are four editions of this book. Each edition is being sold by different companies. Barnes and Noble has the dragon edition, Target’s is the vampire edition, Books-a-Million has the witch court edition and independent bookstores have the gargoyle edition. You can learn more about each edition here on Tracey Wolff’s website. The only difference between the editions is the bonus content, which are short stories/scenes from different characters than we usually hear from. I of course bought the dragon edition and I just loved the two bonus stories. The first was about Nuri, Flint’s mom, told by his dad, Aiden, and was a super sweet story. The second was told from Flint’s point of view and is a heartbreaking scene between him and Jaxon. I will have to see about finding the other editions and reading their bonus content!
Although Court is long, and a little bit draggy at times, I enjoyed it just as much as the other books. This book has just about everything I could have wanted and more from this series. Grace learns so much more about herself and her abilities. We also learn a lot more about the Gargoyles and what their purpose in this world is. It was exciting to learn so much about them. There is a lot of action in this one as well, with some very difficult trials and of course a war to end all wars. And of course some swoony scenes between Hudson and Grace! I just love those two together!
All of your favorite characters that have survived up to this point are back and just as fun as ever! Flint of course is angry and not his usual self, but who can blame him. Jaxon is also struggling a bit, and has a surprise twist to his fate that I am super excited to hear more about. Macy is still optimistic, and will always have everyone’s back. And I was so glad to see both Remy and Calder back and ready to kick some butt. I loved seeing Calder again, I had forgotten how much fun she was. I can’t wait for Remy to have his own book, I just adore his character.
We do meet some new characters as well. My favorite has to be Jikan, the God of Time. He just pops in when ever Grace messes with time and he is just hilarious, although I think he would be insulted that I think that. We also get a new werewolf, Dawud, who I liked but was never really sure how they added to the story. Dawud just sort of shows up, and everyone quickly accepts them and trusts them and includes them in the gang way too quickly. I kept expecting something to happen with that storyline, but it never really did. Also, the last new character I will mention is Isadora, a vampire, who is such an interesting character who proves to be much more than you think.
There is so much going on in this story, and it only spans a couple of days, maybe a week of time. They must all be exhausted by the end, because there isn’t a lot of down time. There is a bit of a cliffhanger at the end, but one that I can live with for now. The main story of Cyrus trying to conquer the world is dealt with in this book, but there are some subplots that need wrapping up, which is why there is another book coming. There were some minor (very minor) plot holes but overall a very enjoyable story.
If you have been dragging your feet about picking this one up because of the length, I get it. I was the same. But I am glad I finally did it, it was one hell of a ride! You will enjoy it to, I am sure of it. If you haven’t yet picked up this series, what are you waiting for?
