Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks! And audiobooks. Don’t forget audiobooks!
In other words, if you can read it or if it can be read to you – no matter how you got it – it belongs in Stacking the Shelves.
The Stacking the Shelves meme was originally hosted at Team Tynga’s Reviews. It is currently hosted by Reading Reality.
I’m back again with another addition to Stacking the Shelves. I didn’t post anything last week, because I didn’t add any books to my stack. This might not be a post I do every week. I am still feeling my way into how many books I can read in a week now that I am retired. I still haven’t quite accepted the fact that I’m done with work and am still just slightly into summer break mode. I’m still working on how to use my time wisely now that I have all the time in the world.
Books I have added to my bedside stack

The first two are library books that I was able to pick up this week. The rest are books I purchased, which is unusual for me. But I was at my favorite indie bookstore buying books for my niece and nephew who celebrate their birthdays this month, and I went wandering to see if anything caught my eye. Of course several new books did jump out at me and begged me to take them home, but when I looked at their price I just couldn’t do it. But then in the farthest corner of the store was a table with bargain books on it and I was able to scoop up three books for almost the price of one. Lucky me.
Dial A for Aunties is a book I have had my eye on for awhile, and it was just sitting all lonely on the shelf at the library so I took it home. I think this is going to be my next read as I need something light and funny right now.
I’ll Be Gone In The Dark will be my next nonfiction book. I have been fascinated by the Golden State Killer case for quite awhile and had planned on reading this, but once I watched the documentary I really got excited about picking it up.
In A Dark, Dark Wood sounded super scary and it is by an author who I haven’t read much, but have liked her books in the past. I might save this one for closer to Halloween, as it sounds super scary.
Red Rising is another book that I have heard a lot about, but never really looked at closely. For some reason I thought it was a fantasy, until I read the description and learned that it is set on Mars. I read the first page and holy crap I was hooked!
Three Assassins is by the author of Bullet Train which I read this spring. This is set in the same underground world as Bullet Train and just sounded so interesting that I had to pick it up.
ARC’s I’ve added to my Netgalley account

I have added one more book recently to my netgalley queue, The City of Stardust. It comes out in January but it sounds pretty good. The quick blurb:
“A young woman descends into a seductive magical underworld of power-hungry scholars, fickle gods and monsters bent on revenge to break her family’s curse in this spellbinding contemporary fantasy debut. “
Sounds excellent doesn’t it? And that cover, I just love it and would have picked it on that alone I think.
Audiobooks

I’ve added two audiobooks to my phone this week. They are the next two books in the Lewis trilogy which I started last month with The Blackhouse. I have already started The Lewis Man and am enjoying it. I hope to finish it quickly and get to the last one, The Chessmen early next week.

This was a long post and thank you for sticking it out to the end. I hope you enjoyed it and maybe found a book or two to add to your never ending TBR. Until next time….
I still find retirement a bit tricky. I have days when I’m really lazy and do very little and other days when I feel that I ought to be doing stuff and get really busy. It is lovely having extra time to read though.
I really enjoyed the Red Rising trilogy and totally agree about that cover for The City of Stardust.
