The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. It was relaunched on February 15, 2013 by Billy@Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.
This week’s topic is:
Do you prefer to read standalone or series books?
(submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer)
I don’t think I have a preference. They both have their positives and negatives. I like standalones for the very fact that they are one and done. I don’t have to wait a year (or more) for the sequel or the next book like I do with many series. But I sometimes wish that a standalone would become a series because it left me wanting more, either in the characters, the story or the world.
I also like series because we get to spend more time with those characters or in that world. But I have also come across some series that maybe should have stopped at one or even two, as they just seem to get worse with every book. Or sometimes with really long series, they seem to get very formulaic. It is the same basic plot with only minor deviations.
I am really all about good stories with well developed characters. As long as these are done well then I am happy to read the book or the series.
I prefer reading standalone books. Love the post.
