The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What have you recently finished reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

November has not gotten off to a stellar start. The weather has been miserable, rain, rain and more rain, which we desperately need, but still. I usually like rainy days, because then I don’t feel guilty about staying in and reading. But unfortunately the reading this week was not great. I liked all of the books I read, but there just wasn’t anything that I got super excited about. This week is going a bit better, but I am reading two really long ones, so they may take awhile to get through.

What am I currently reading?

Red Seas Under Red Skies is the second book in the Gentleman Bastard series. I am quite enjoying this one, Locke and Jean have certainly gotten themselves into a tight spot that will be hard for them to get out of.

Curious Tides is so far interesting. I have only gotten a few chapters done, but I am finding the magical system to be very intriguing. Magic based on the moon cycles is something I have not come across before. The two characters we have met so far are interesting too.

Tales of the Greatcoats is a collection of short stories set in the Greatcoat world. I am really enjoying these and the narrators are excellent.

What have I recently finished reading?

Never a Hero suffered from second book syndrome. It took a long time for anything to kind of happen, but it was only in the last 50 pages of a 500+ book for anything really important to happen. Hopefully the third book will pick up the pace a bit.

The September House was interesting. It wasn’t really what I would call a horror book, although it does have some very disturbing murders at the end. It had more to do with mental health and domestic abuse than a haunted house.

A Spindle Splintered and A Mirror Mended were interesting twists on the Sleeping Beauty and Snow White fairy tales. I liked the science fiction aspect of the multiverse for folktales, but the characters felt very flat and uninteresting.

What will I read next?

The Measure will be my next book. I am looking forward to this science fiction book. It will be interesting to think about what I might do if I knew exactly when I was going to die.

Where the Drowned Girls Go is a novella that I picked up because it won the 2023 Hugo Award. I have only read the first book in the WayWard Children series, but this one is a spin off so I think I will be okay. Plus it is short.

A Study in Drowning will be the next audiobook that I read. This one received a bit of hype when it first came out. I hope it lives up to it.

The weather does not look like it is going to get any better this week, but at least the reading is looking up. I hope you all have been having a great week and that your books have been giving you joy. Until next time…

Happy Reading!
