First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
Got it? Okay let’s go! Here is the quote…
“Great Uncle Forthright was dead, and Mildred’s toast had gone soggy on one side.”
Do you know this one?

It has to do with dragons….

It was first published in 2022…

Have you guessed?

Yes? No?

Give up?

Here it is!

Miss Percy’s Pocket Guide to the Care and Feeding of British Dragons
By Quenby Olson

In case you missed my post earlier this week, Tuesday was Appreciate a Dragon Day, so of course I had to choose a dragon book for this week’s First Lines Friday. I picked this one up at the library last week and hope to get to it in the next week or two. After reading that first line I am sure that I will enjoy this one.
Were you able to guess this week’s book? Have you read this one? Let me know in the comments.
