Top 5 Wednesday

It is another round of Top 5 Wednesday!  This weeks topic is auto-buy Scifi and Fantasy authors.  This is both a hard and an easy one for me.  The hard part is that I don’t buy a whole lot of books for myself, I buy them for my job. And many of those that are auto-buys for my library are because my students want them, not necessarily me.  But I do have a bunch of authors that are auto-reads for me.  As soon as I find out they have a new book coming out they go on my Goodreads list and I constantly search to see when they are available in my library to put on hold (usually 2-3 months before the release date.  Sometimes earlier if it is a super popular author/series).  Also it was hard to narrow this list down to just five!

So hear are some auto-read authors for me. (If you follow my blog, many of these won’t surprise you

1. Cinda Williams Chima

I absolutely love her books, especially her Seven Realms and Shattered Realms series.  I plan on getting the newest one which came out on 4/3 this week when I have a chance to get to the book store.  I was thrilled when I found out this one wasn’t the last in the series either.  I really didn’t want it to end, so happy dance time!  Her books are probably the only auto buys on the list. 

2. Scott Westerfeld

I think I have read everything that Scott has written (except the graphic novels, just not my thing)  But I was so super excited to see that he is planning more books set in the Uglies world.  I didn’t even read the summaries, just put them on my list.  I loved the Uglies series and can’t wait to see what he does with that world next. 

3. Holly Black

Holly is another author that I don’t need to know what the book is about, I just know I will love it.  I thought I had read all of her books, but I ran across a review of Tithe recently and it didn’t sound as familiar as I thought it should, so maybe I missed this one?  Well, it is now on my summer reading list while I wait for the next book in the The Folk of the Air series.  I might even reread The Coldest Girl in Coldtown, one of my favorites of hers.  I also highly recommend her Curse Workers series.  

4. Neil Gaiman

Another author I think I have read everything he has written, again except for the graphic novels.  I just recently watched the British series of Neverwhere that was made in 1996. It was ok, I had forgotten how awful 90’s fantasy shows could be.  I think this was the first book by Neil that I ever read, which I think lead me to Good Omens which then led me to Terry Pratchett and Disc World, which would have made this list if there were still books coming from him.  I’m planning on rereading Neverwhere and American Gods soon and looking forward to his next book.  

5. Cory Doctorow

This one may be a bit of a surprise, but I love his work, even though I still haven’t read his latest, Walkabout.  There are also a few of his adult works that I haven’t read. But his book, Little Brother, is still one of my all time favorite YA books.  If you have not read it I highly recommend it, especially in this day and age. I keep thinking about it lately, so it might make it onto my reread list soon.
