This weekly meme was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners. It is now being hosted by Budget Tales Book Blog. To participate, choose a random book from your GoodReads TBR and show it off. Which sounds easy enough until you have to decide how to choose that book! I think I will use a different way each week, like picking a color or number of pages. I will let you know each week how I chose the book and then something interesting about it, like how it ended up on the list or why I want to read it. Got it? Okay let’s get started.
I have decided to continue talking about books I am looking forward to reading in 2022 for all of my Goodreads Monday posts. There are a lot of good books coming out next year, many of them delayed for various reasons this year.
This week’s pick has been a long time coming. It is a sequel to Tess of the Road which was published way back in 2018. I don’t know the reasons for the long delay, but I for one was super excited when I saw that it was finally being published.
In the Serpent’s Wake by Rachel Hartman
Publication Date: February 1, 2022
Summary from GoodReads:
MIND OF THE WORLD,
OPEN YOUR EYES.
At the bottom of the world lies a Serpent, the last of its kind.
Finding the Serpent will change lives.
Tess is a girl on a mission to save a friend.
Spira is a dragon seeking a new identity.
Marga is a woman staking her claim on a man’s world.
Jacomo is a priest searching for his soul.
There are those who would give their lives to keep it hidden.
And those who would destroy it.
But the only people who will truly find the Serpent are those who have awakened to the world around them—with eyes open to the wondrous, the terrible, and the just.
It has been far too long since I read the first book, that I remember very little of it. I will have to find some time in January to revisit that book but I am ok with that as I remember it being very good. I might try the audiobook, but the book is very long, so maybe I will switch back and forth between the two.
Have you read Tess of the Road? If you have, are you looking forward to the sequel? Let me know in the comments.
