Stacking the Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks! And audiobooks. Don’t forget audiobooks!

In other words, if you can read it or if it can be read to you – no matter how you got it – it belongs in Stacking the Shelves.

The Stacking the Shelves meme was originally hosted at Team Tynga’s Reviews. It is currently hosted by Reading Reality.

I debated about doing this post this week as I didn’t have any library books arrive. But then I remembered that I added two books to my NetGalley list and I actually bought two books recently. So there you go, sometimes these things work out.

Books I have added to my shelves

So I initially had no plans to purchase either of these books for very different reasons. But circumstances changed my mind and I am happy to tell you the stories.

Some of you may notice that I put the UK cover up for The Fragile Threads of Power instead of the US cover. This is because I really don’t like the US cover, in fact I think it is kind of ugly. Which is why I didn’t plan on buying a copy of it, plus I read the ARC so wasn’t desperate to get my hands on it. I was sort of maybe hoping that the paperback might have a better cover. So I decided to wait. But then I thought that maybe they were using this cover in Canada, which is only a few hours away. So I started checking a few indie stores in Vancouver, but no luck, they only had the US cover too. Now for some reason I then went to Amazon to see when the paperback might be coming out and they actually had a link to order the UK cover. YEAH! Did I have to wait a few weeks for it? Yes I did, but was it worth it, yes, yes it was. I’m so happy to have this beautiful cover, and now I can read it again whenever I want.

Sword Catcher was another book I wasn’t planning on purchasing anytime soon. In fact I have had the audiobook on hold at the library for awhile, still do. But on publication day I got an email from the publisher about an online event featuring Cassandra talking to Holly Black! How could I say no! So of course the ticket price included the cost of a book plus shipping. So now I own a copy, a signed copy. Was it worth it? Maybe? The online event wasn’t as fun as I thought it would be. Both authors appeared to be really uncomfortable in front of the camera and there wasn’t as much back and forth between them like I thought there would be, as I know that they are really good friends. But it was still interesting to hear Cassandra talk about her writing process and it got me a little more excited about reading this book. So I guess it all worked out. And on the plus side, I now have a book I could use as a murder weapon if need be! (Have you seen the size of this thing?)

ARC’s I’ve added to my Netgalley account

Court of Wanderers is the second book in the Reaper series. I enjoyed reading the first book Silver Under Nightfall last year and am looking forward to reading this sequel. This comes out April 2, 2024.

I really enjoyed The Woman in the Library last year so when I saw The Mystery Writer on NetGalley I just had to request a copy. This one sounds just as good as the one I read so I am excited to read it. It comes out on March 19, 2024.

Well that is all I have for this week. I hope you are all doing well and taking care of yourselves. Until next time…

Happy Reading!

  1. I was tempted by the Cassandra Clare when we were browsing bookshops this week. However, as my suitcase is full, it will have to wait until we return. Books are much cheaper at home too
