This weekly meme was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners. It is now being hosted by Budget Tales Book Blog. To participate, choose a random book from your GoodReads TBR and show it off. Which sounds easy enough until you have to decide how to choose that book! I think I will use a different way each week, like picking a color or number of pages. I will let you know each week how I chose the book and then something interesting about it, like how it ended up on the list or why I want to read it. Got it? Okay let’s get started.
Sorry about my absence that latter half of last week. April is my usual month for springtime allergies and the last couple of years they seem to be getting worse. I had a bad case of allergy brain and could barely put a coherent thought together. It rained a bit yesterday so I am feeling a little better today, so hopefully I can get some posts written for the week, before it starts up again.
Today’s pick is my newest edition to my TBR. Literally like five minutes before I wrote this post I found out about this book and added it to the list of this year’s must reads. Not only does it sound brilliant, but just read this review by Shannon over at It Starts at Midnight. It will probably sell you on the book, just like it did me. If you don’t already follow Shannon, you really should. Her reviews are marvelous and I almost always find a book to add to my TBR through her posts.
This is for all of you who are Vampire fans, and especially my niece who is going to Alaska at the end of the year!
The Gathering by C.J. Tudor
Publication Date: April 9, 2024
Summary from Goodreads:
Deadhart, Alaska. 873. Living.

In a small Alaska town, a boy is found with his throat ripped out and all the blood drained from his body. The inhabitants of Deadhart haven’t seen a killing like this in twenty-five years. But they know who’s responsible: a member of the Colony, an ostracized community of vampyrs living in an old mine settlement deep in the woods.
Detective Barbara Atkins, a specialist in vampyr killings, is called in to officially determine if this is a Colony killing—and authorize a cull. Old suspicions die hard in a town like Deadhart, but Barbara isn’t so sure. Determined to find the truth, she enlists the help of a former Deadhart sheriff, Jenson Tucker, whose investigation into the previous murder almost cost him his life. Since then, Tucker has become a recluse. But he knows the Colony better than almost anyone.
As the pair delve into the town’s history, they uncover secrets darker than they could have imagined. And then another body is found. While the snow thickens and the nights grow longer, a killer stalks Deadhart, and two disparate communities circle each other for blood. Time is running out for Atkins and Tucker to find the truth: Are they hunting a bloodthirsty monster . . . or a twisted psychopath? And which is more dangerous?
I am not sure when I am going to get to this one, but I hope to soon. I have so many library books and books I own sitting on my bedside table that I am feeling very guilty about not reading, (especially those pesky library books) but I might just shove all of those aside to read this one.
Hope you all are doing well and having a great start to your week. Until next time…
