This weekly meme was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners. It is now being hosted by Budget Tales Book Blog. To participate, choose a random book from your GoodReads TBR and show it off. Which sounds easy enough until you have to decide how to choose that book! I think I will use a different way each week, like picking a color or number of pages. I will let you know each week how I chose the book and then something interesting about it, like how it ended up on the list or why I want to read it. Got it? Okay let’s get started.
This week’s pick is probably my most anticipated read of the summer. It comes out in a couple of weeks and I am so excited to get my hands on a copy. I’m hoping my library gets a copy of the audiobook, but so far they don’t have it listed in the catalog. I did put the book on hold, but the narrator was so delightful for the first book, that I really want to listen to this book as well.
My summary is actually from Amazon, because for some reason they have not posted a summary on Goodreads, which is kind of odd seeing as Amazon owns Goodreads. But, hey, I don’t need a summary to know that I want to read this one.
Apprentice to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer
Publication Date: August 8, 2024
Summary from Amazon:

NOTICE TO STAFF: There has been a disturbing increase in cheeriness, sprightly behavior, and overall optimism of late. Please resume your former dark, ominous terrors at your earliest convenience. ―Mgmt
Evie Sage has never been happier to be the assistant to The Villain. Who would have thought that working for an outrageously handsome (shhh, bad for his brand) evil overlord would be so rewarding? Still, the business of being bad is demanding, the forces of good are annoyingly persistent, and said forbidding boss is somewhat…er, out-of-evil-office.
But Rennedawn is in grave trouble, and all signs―Kingsley’s included―point to catastrophe. Something peculiar is happening with the kingdom’s magic, and it’s made The Villain’s manor vulnerable to their enemies…including their nemesis, the king.
Now it’s time for Evie to face her greatest challenge: protecting The Villain’s lair, all of his nefarious works, and maybe (provided no one finds out) the entire kingdom. No pressure, Evie.
It’s time to step out of her comfort zone and learn new skills. Like treason. Dagger work. Conspiring with the enemy. It’s all so…so…delightfully fun.
But what happens when the assistant to The Villain is ready to become his apprentice?
I absolutely adored Assistant to the Villain last summer. It is very campy and silly, but we all need a little sunshine in our lives, and I certainly found it in the first book. I have seen one review so far for this one, and it sounds like it is just as good if not better than the first book. If you have not read the first book, I highly recommend it. Especially if you like books that will make you laugh out loud! Until next time…
It sounds good. I need to read the first one! I hope you manage to get a copy.
Have a great week!
