This weekly meme was started byย @Laurenโs Page Turners. It is now being hosted by Budget Tales Book Blog. To participate, choose a random book from your GoodReads TBR and show it off. Which sounds easy enough until you have to decide how to choose that book! I think I will use a different way each week, like picking a color or number of pages. I will let you know each week how I chose the book and then something interesting about it, like how it ended up on the list or why I want to read it. Got it? Okay let’s get started.
Happy Monday! I hope the week has started out well for all you. This week I am continuing to highlight books that have spooky covers in honor of Spooky October. The book that I chose for today’s post has a nice looking cover until you take a closer look. Then it gets pretty creepy.
The Whispering Dark by Kelly Andrew
Publication: October 2022
Summary from Goodreads:

Delaney Meyers-Petrov is tired of being seen as fragile just because she’s Deaf. So when she’s accepted into a prestigious program at Godbole University that trains students to slip between parallel worlds, she’s excited for the chance to prove herself. But her semester gets off to a rocky start as she faces professors who won’t accommodate her disability, and a pretentious upperclassman fascinated by Delaney’s unusual talents.
Colton Price died when he was nine years old. Quite impossibly, he woke several weeks later at the feet of a green-eyed little girl. Now, twelve years later, Delaney Meyers-Petrov has stumbled back into his orbit, but Colton’s been ordered to keep far away from the new girl… and the voices she hears calling to her from the shadows.
Delaney wants to keep her distance from Colton — she seems to be the only person on campus who finds him more arrogant than charming — yet after a Godbole student turns up dead, she and Colton are forced to form a tenuous alliance, plummeting down a rabbit-hole of deeply buried university secrets. But Delaney and Colton discover the cost of opening the doors between worlds when they find themselves up against something old and nameless, an enemy they need to destroy before it tears them — and their forbidden partnership — apart.

So, did you notice the creepy skulls on the flowers? Pretty chilling. The story sounds rather creepy as well as pretty dark. This has been on my TBR since it came out and I still haven’t gotten around to it. I probably won’t get to it soon either as I have only a little bit of wiggle room in my reading right now. But you never know. This one just might find its way onto my stack soon.
Have you ever seen a cover that you thought was nice until you took a closer look? Let me know in the comments. Until next time…
It does sound creepy. Once you see those skulls you can’t unsee them!!
I’m panic reading at the moment (Christmas Netgalley books!) so I don’t know if I’ll get any spooky season books read.
Have a great week!
