I saw this earlier this week on Becky’s Book Blog and thought it would be fun to do. It was harder than I thought, though, as I tend to only give out 3 and 4 stars on average. I also limited myself to books that I read this year. I was thinking that it might help me organize my thoughts abit for my end of year posts. It did, but I think it mostly eliminated books that I didn’t think were that good.

This turned out harder than I thought it would be. I have rated a few books this year as two stars, but their average ratings were pretty low too. So I guess I wasn’t the only one not to like them. Anyway, Candle and Crow has an average of 4.41 stars, but I only gave it 3 stars.
What is the lowest-rated book that you gave a high rating?

This was interesting, I really thought Virtually Dead would have a higher average rating. I think it probably has gone down over the years, just because it didn’t age well. The average rating was 3.04 but I gave it 4 stars.
What is the most popular book that you disagree with the average rating?

I’m not sure I’m interpreting this one correctly, but I think A Curse for True Love is the winner. About 250,000 people thought it was 4.13 average stars, but I only gave it 3 stars.

Full Speed to a Crash Landing has not seen the love it deserves. It only has 1,372 ratings at an average of 3.9 stars. I gave it five stars, so yeah you people are just wrong. Actually I am kind of surprised so few people have read this one. Maybe they are waiting for all of them to be out first.
Choose two three books that have an average rating of 3/5 stars but you gave a higher rating.
(Sorry, I have a thing for the number three, so I decided to change the parameters a bit ; ).

So Thirsty was a bit of a surprise hear. I thought it was doing pretty good ratings wise, but alas no. It’s average is only 3.5, but I gave it 5 stars.
The Maidens is also a little surprising in its low score of 3.6. I thought is was great and gave it five stars.
I’ll Keep You Safe only received an average of 3.6 as well. I was riveted by this and had a hard time putting it down and gave it 5 stars.

Oops I did it again! Sorry, not sorry.

Long Live Evil was my biggest disappointment this year. But I think a lot of people felt the same. It’s average rating is 3.9 but I gave it 2 stars.
The Party was such a disappointment too. I had high hopes for it but it was just too predictable and reminded me of those bad 80’s horror movies. This hasn’t been published yet, but so far its average rating is 3.5, my rating was rounded up to a 2.
Court of Wanderers wasn’t a bad book, but I just felt so confused while reading it. I know I rounded this one up to a three stars, but the average rating 3.7, so I might not be alone in my feelings for it.

The Witchwood Knot does not stick out as very memorable in my mind. The average rating is 4.1 but I only gave it two stars, and I think that might have been rounded up.
Beautiful Broken Love was just not a book for me. It got too bogged down in the relationship between the main characters and left some of the other great things in it on the curb. The average rating is 4.36 but it was a solid 3 stars for me.
The Bezzle unfortunately was a bit boring for me. The average rating is 4.12 but mine was a low 3 stars.

I have not read any books with a rating of less than three stars this year and only a couple in previous years. I have either been lucky or just have good taste in books.
Do you tend to agree or disagree with Goodreads average rating, and do you use Goodreads as a guide for books you want to read?
For the most part I think I agree with their ratings, although when something is rated low, I usually look to see how many people have actually read it. Same with high ratings of books that haven’t come out yet. The only time I really use the ratings as a guide is when I am debating about whether or not I want to read it. Then I look at both the ratings and the reviews to help me decide.

That was fun, although a bit harder than I thought it would be. I’m not tagging anyone, but if you think this would be fun go ahead and join in. Until next time…
Happy Reading!
I completely agree about Long Live Evil. I was really disappointed by it
