Audiobook Reviews:

March ended on a really good note as far as my audiobooks went. I managed to finish two really good books this last week and wanted to share some quick thoughts about them.

Wooing the Witch Queen by Stephanie Burgis

Read by Amanda Leigh Cobb

Published: February 18, 2025

This was such a fun little romantasy! I loved the characters and the fairytale like setting was also excellent. I am really looking forward to reading the other books in this series each featuring a different queen. Amanda Leigh Cobb did a fabulous job as the narrator bringing both characters to life. If you like audiobooks this is a must listen.

I just adored both Saskia and Felix. Saskia is a ‘wicked’ queen but really she is just someone with a quick temper and strikes out with her magic and asks question later. She is decisive though, and I love that she just wants to work in her lab and be left alone. Felix is a sweetheart and I loved the way he tempered Saskia’s anger. His gentleness steals the show. I also loved how they both have the feelings, but of course can’t admit to them because of who they are. The big reveal as to Felix’s true identity was great, and I loved the twist that was thrown in.

Great cast of secondary characters and a fun plot enhanced the romantasy storyline. Loved the writing and the witty banter as well. Highly recommend this one if you love fun romantasies with a bit of a dark edge to it.

(Sorry if I am confusing anyone with my cover choice. I’m not sure this one is available in the US but it is the one I like the best. 😉)

The Graveyard Shift by M.L. Rio

Read by Jess Nahikian, Max Meyers, Si Chen, Susan Dalian and Tim Campbell

Published: September 2024

This is a novella but with a full cast of readers for the audiobook, which I think is rather unusual. But I loved that they did it. All of the readers had great and distinct voices which really helped bring the story to life. Each character got at least one chapter to tell their part of the story, a couple got two, and having the different voices just enhanced their parts and made it so much better.

The story is pretty short, but it packed in quite a lot in that 3 hours. It all takes place in one night starting at midnight and going to the wee hours of the morning. It is mostly a plot driven story, but the characters are developed enough that you know who they are and how they all fit into the plot. I don’t want to say alot about the plot, but it was really well done and kind of spooky and disturbing. It just sort of teeters on the horror line without quite tipping over the edge.

A good stand alone novella that I certainly wanted more of. The ending was a bit open ended, especially for one of the characters, but it also made sense for the story to end that way. This is only the second book by this author, but she has a third coming out in the fall and I am really looking forward to that as well.

Even if you are not into audiobooks I do recommend both of these books. They are both well done stories that everyone should enjoy. Until next time…

Happy Reading!
