First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
Got it? Okay let’s go! Here is the quote…
“People thing that death by drowning would be peaceful. But if there is any truth to that,it’s a peace that comes after the worst thirty seconds of your life.”
Do you know this one?

It’s a Scottish mystery thriller

It’s a debut that came out in February

Have you guessed?

Yes? No?

Give up?

Here it is!

The Wolf Tree by Laura McCluskey

I’m about halfway through this one and I am really enjoying it. It is very atmospheric and I am really loving the narrator, George. She has a very interesting take on life. Have you read this one or have it on your list?
Until Next Time….
I haven’t come across this book before, but it looks good. I love a book set in Scotland! Glad you’re enjoying it so far.
