Quick Reviews: Holiday Romances

Happy Monday! Here are some very quick reviews of the adult holiday romances I have read this month. I enjoyed them for the most part and they really helped me get into the holiday spirit.

Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle

This is a really sweet YA holiday romance that I very much enjoyed reading. It is actually three separate stories, but they are all connected. All three take place on the same Christmas Eve and day and they take place in the same small town. Some of the characters know each other, but are not necessarily involved in each other’s stories. I also loved how the blizzard played a role. The kids all make some rather poor choices when it came to the blizzard, but everything does work out in the end. A lovely little bit of holiday magic.

Fa-La-La-La Land by Brittainy Larsen

This was also a rather sweet and wholesome romance that was maybe a bit far fetched, but still a lot of fun to read. I really enjoyed the two main characters and really liked the fact that we were given both their points of view. The holiday part of this story was nicely done, although I don’t think I know anyone who decorates for Christmas starting in October!? But I loved her enthusiasm for the holiday and it was a bit infectious. This is the third book in a series, and I assume that some of the characters we meet have already had their stories told, but that certainly didn’t take away from the overall lovely story here. I might at some point pick up the other books as I did like the way this story was told.

Good Spirits by B.K. Borison

This was a fun supernatural holiday romance that was maybe a bit too long, but I still enjoyed it. The premise was interesting, the ghost of Christmas past is sent to haunt Harriet. He sets out to just get the job done, the usual, show her her past transgressions and make her a better person, but he soons finds himself attracted to her and falling in love. Harriet was a great character, yes she has flaws and she wears her heart on her sleeve, but meeting Nolan makes her a better and stronger person. I enjoyed their journey and how their feelings for each other grew and changed. I am a bit confused by the ending though, or maybe unsure is a better word. If any of you have read this let me know what you thought of the ending.

The Christmas Pact by Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward

This was a very cute, yet very predictable, holiday romance novella. I did love the meet cute and the whole email thing was also well done. But the rest of the story goes pretty much how these types of books go. But it was a fun time getting there. I did enjoy the banter, and some of the secondary characters were a hoot. There were some surprises in the story, like I didn’t see the astronaut thing coming, and those were kind of fun too. If you are looking for a short and sweet holiday romance, you certainly can’t go wrong with this one.

Under the Mistletoe Collection

This is a collection of short stories by some very well known romance authors. I enjoyed the stories, especially the romance aspects of them. A couple of them had some very sweet meet cute stories. But remember these are short stories, all around 100 pages, so why did most of them have at least a third of the story be all about the sex between the characters? I would much rather have had more development in their romance than the sex. That said, a couple of the stories were also way too insta-lovey for my taste. Again, I get that these are short stories, but more romance less sex would have been a better choice in my opinion. If you like the steam in your romances than you will probably like these stories. If you are like me though and want more romance than sex you might want to skip them.

I have a couple more holiday reads that aren’t romances that I need to finish and write reviews for the ones that are done. I should hopefully get them all posted soon. Until next time…

Happy Reading!
