Top 5 Wednesday – 2019 Reads

Top five wednesday (1)

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Lainey at GingerReads and Samantha at Thoughts on Tomes.  You can find the group on Goodreads.

This week’s topic:

Most Anticipated 2019 Releases
— Pretty explanatory. If you can’t narrow it down, give your selections for only the first half of the year or even just for winter 2019.

It was pretty easy for me to narrow this one down.  I decided to stick with the first half of the year and there were only 6 books that I really want to read the second they come out, so I only had to decide which one not to put on the list.  I picked The Wicked King to leave off, only because I am sure it will find it’s way onto many lists. (you see what I did there didn’t you?)

My Top 5 Anticipated Reads of 2019

Stain by A. G. Howard. (January 15th)

Stain

This book only recently got on my radar.  Not sure how I missed it.  I loved her Splintered series, and her Haunted Hearts Legacy books.  And Roseblood was a masterful retelling of the Phantom of the Opera.  I’m still sort of avoiding fairytale retells, but I will make an exception for this one.  Plus her books always tend toward the dark, which makes the retellings better.  And oh my gosh!  That cover!

The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson (January 22nd)

The Vanishing Stair

The first book in this series Truly Devious, was one of my favorite books of the year.  I can’t wait to see what happens in this one.   Will Stevie solve the mystery or not, who will die in this one, all that good stuff.  And even though the cover is a bit red I still really like it.

A Question of Holmes by Brittany Cavallaro (March 5th)

A question of holmes

I have quite enjoyed this modern take of the Holmes and Watson relationship.  Although I had some issues with the last book I am really looking forward to seeing how the author is going to wrap up this series.  Plus I really need to know if Jamie ends up okay at the end.  Plus I think they both are at Oxford in this one, which is one of my favorite places that I hope to visit one day.

The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu  (April 2nd)

The Red Scrolls of MagicI don’t think I have ever mentioned how much I love Magnus Bane on this blog before 😍 All kidding aside, I was so thrilled when I found out about this series featuring Magnus and Alec that I think I did a little happy dance.  And then I found out it was a trilogy! (Scrrreeeee!)  Sorry I’ll stop now and get serious, yeah no.  April 2nd can not get here soon enough.  I will be clearing my calendar so that I can sit and read it through as soon as I get it.  This also gives me hope that we will see a spin off of Simon and Isabelle sometime in the future.

Rage by Cora Carmack (June 11th)

Rage

I have been waiting two long years for this book and I can barely wait six more months for it.  I loved the world that the author created here.  The magical system is fascinating, the love story is sweet and the villain is great too.  I will definitely be rereading the first book Roar before this one comes out.

Those are my most anticipated reads for the beginning of 2019.  As always please stop by the Goodreads group to see what books others are looking forward to.  You need to add books to your TBR don’t you?
