Top 5 Wednesday has gone on hiatus for the summer. They have left it up to us to choose our own topics for the summer. I thought about how much I liked doing those emerald books for May, so I looked up June’s birthstone and found that one of them was the moonstone. I thought they looked pretty cool, so I decided to talk about books with either moons on the cover or in the title. Enjoy!
The Girl Who Drank The Moon by Kelly Barnhill
This is probably my favorite book with a moon on the cover. It is just stunning and the story is fantastic. It so deserved the Newbery Medal. This is a middle grade book, but I think adults probably appreciate it more.
The Diminished by Kaitlyn Sage Patterson
I like this cover because the moon is broken. Actually I was glad that I found this book for this post. It reminded me that I haven’t read the second book yet. This one is an interesting take on twins and the twin connection. I also like the way the moon glows across the water.
Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody
The moon is kind of hard to see in this one, but it is there, hiding in the smoke. I like her other series better but this is still a really good read. Interesting characters and some pretty awesome world building.
Moon Over Soho by Ben Aaronovitch
This is the only one with moon in the title. But look there is sort of kind of a moon on the cover too. This one was all about jazz and jazz vampires. It was pretty good. I have really been enjoying this series. I’m looking forward to reading the next one soon.
The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu
The moon is a bit stylized but I still say it counts. I really liked this book, just wished I had loved it. I just can’t get enough of Magnus though, so I am happy to read any book he shows up in.
So even though the group is on hiatus, I’m still going to try and post a top 5 every week. Not sure what my topics will be yet, but I will try to keep them up to the usual standard. Hope you enjoyed these. Do you have a favorite cover featuring the moon?
