Top 5 2019 Middle Grade Books

I occurred to me after I had finished all of my best of posts last month, that I never talked about the middle grade books I read. I read a lot of really good middle grade books last year, so I wanted to share those with you. These are all books I read last year that I thought were excellent and that were published in 2019.

These were all excellent books and ones I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys the genre.

  • We’re Not From Here by Geoff Rodkey was an awesome science fiction book all about refugees and their struggles to survive in a world they don’t understand.
  • Tunnel of Bones by Victoria Schwab is the second book in the Cassidy Blake series. This is such a fun series and a great way to introduce younger readers to the awesome author.
  • Dead Voices by Kathrine Arden is also the second in a series, although you don’t really need to read them in order. A great winter read as it takes place in a snowed in ski resort.
  • Scorch Dragons by Amie Kaufman is the second in a trilogy about a group of kids who use elemental magic to shape shift into either dragons or wolves.
  • Sweeping up the Heart by Kevin Henkes is the only contemporary to make my best of list. It is a beautiful and heartwarming story about friendship and family.

Honorable Mention:

Race to the Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse doesn’t come out until next week, but I read it last year and it is such a great book that I had to mention it again. This is a standalone, but I certainly hope to see more middle grade books by this incredible author.

Did you have any favorite middle-grade books from 2019?
