First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!

“Tomorrow my future will be decided by my dead gran’s finger bones. It’s how my whole life has been determined — with bones and blood and snapping flames.”

Can you guess yet?

Need a hint?

The second book comes out at the end of May

Have you guessed?

Here it is…

I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to start the second one. Although I will have to reread this one, as I remember it had a very complicated plot.
Were you able to guess? Have you read this one? Do you want to?
Ooh, these are great first lines; they definitely do the job of capturing my attention! I’ve got this book on my TBR and can’t wait to give it a try. Have heard great things! Hope the second one is just as great 🙂

Never heard of this one before, but that first line sounds good!

The first one was very good, a little bit different with the two story lines, but really good.
