This weekly meme was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners. To participate, choose a random book from your GoodReads TBR and show it off. Which sounds easy enough until you have to decide how to choose that book! I think I will use a different way each week, like picking a color or number of pages. I will let you know each week how I chose the book and then something interesting about it, like how it ended up on the list or why I want to read it. Got it? Okay let’s get started.
I had a bit of hard time coming up with an idea on how to pick my book this week. But then I thought about the election here in the US that is happening this week and I decided to look for something funny, because you know no matter the outcome, I might need a good laugh. This is the book that caught my eye and at least the title is somewhat fitting.
The End of the World is Nigh by Tony Moyle
Publication date: February 2019

Everyone’s heard of Nostradamus No one’s heard of Philibert Montmorency One was a legend The other, not so much…
A newly discovered Nostradamus prophecy has taken the internet by storm thanks to ‘The Oblivion Doctrine’, a group of online conspiracy theorists. Apparently the end is nigh. And in case anyone’s interested, nigh is definitely a Tuesday.
Doctor Ally Oldfield, Professor of Medieval Languages, is summoned to Lyon for a second opinion. She’s not happy about it. But then again she’s rarely happy about anything. She’s got a coffee deficiency, a low tolerance towards almost everybody, and nothing good to say about Nostradamus whatsoever. And in her expert opinion, although the prophecy is over five hundred years old, it’s definitely not by Nostradamus. So if he didn’t write it, who did?
Helped by Gabriel Janvier, the second-worst ‘prepper’ of all time, and Mr. Palomer, a mysterious old philanthropist, Oldfield must scour history to discover the truth before the prophecy comes true or The Oblivion Doctrine’s fake news destroys civilization anyway.
In the search for truth, only history can save the future.
I don’t remember how this ended up on my list but I added it earlier this year, so I imagine I saw a review of it somewhere. I really like the cover and the summary makes me really want to pick it up this week. It doesn’t have a lot of reviews on Goodreads, but the majority of them are favorable ones. I also read a bit of the preview and was pretty impressed. I think this one just jumped up closer to the top of the TBR.
So what do you think? Does this sound like a good book to you? Leave a comment and let me know.
This certainly sounds like a funny read. I chuckled when I read that nigh is definitely a Tuesday.
