GoodReads Monday

This weekly meme was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners. It is now being hosted by Budget Tales Book Blog. To participate, choose a random book from your GoodReads TBR and show it off. Which sounds easy enough until you have to decide how to choose that book! I think I will use a different way each week, like picking a color or number of pages. I will let you know each week how I chose the book and then something interesting about it, like how it ended up on the list or why I want to read it. Got it? Okay let’s get started.

This week’s pick is another book that was published earlier in the year but I have yet to read. This is the middle book of a trilogy, although there does not appear to be release date for the third book yet. I had sort of mixed feelings on the first book, Wicked as You Wish, so I never felt the urge to pick this one up as soon as it came out. I might just decide to wait until the third one is available and then read the whole series together. But I just might decide to not finish the series at some point too.

An Unreliable Magic by Rin Chupeco

Publication Date: May 3, 2022

Summary from Goodreads:

The second book in the A Hundred Names for Magic trilogy, an unforgettable alternative history fairy-tale series from the author of The Bone Witch about found family, modern day magic, and finding the place you belong.

Tala, Alex, and the rest of their friends are safe for now, but know the Snow Queen is still out there. They have to be prepared for when she eventually attacks—and all decide to do so in their own way.

When Ryker comes out of the woodwork, showing himself when he starts attacking American detention facilities and freeing refugees. And the Nameless Sword, a legendary weapon that according to Avalon legend, will make its wielder the most powerful warrior of their time turns up with her name on it, Tala’s life gets messier…But when the Snow Queen arrives with an unlikely ally, the group will have to work together.

I really like that cover, much better than the first book’s. Hopefully the new year will bring a release date for the third book. There was a two year gap between these two books so it might be a bit of a wait for the third.

Do you ever wait for a whole series to be published before finishing it? Let me know in the comments.
