Book Blogger Hop

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. It was relaunched on February 15, 2013 by Billy@Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

This week’s topic is:

When you write your reviews, which do you discuss more – the plot or the characters?

(submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews)

I like to think that I give even emphasis to both, but it sometimes it depends on the book. If the books is heavy on the character’s development than I will spend more time talking about them, or sometimes if I really liked a character. If it is more plot heavy, then of course I will talk more about that.

Talking about the plot in a review can be tricky. I try to stay away from summarizing the plot, as that can lead to spoilers. I mostly talk about writing style, and pacing, as well as any surprise twists or endings. But those are done in general terms so as to not spoil anything. Sometimes I won’t talk about a plot at all, if anything I say will spoil it, this is usually the case with murder mysteries.

This was an interesting question to think about and I am looking forward to seeing what other people do.
