First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!
Got it? Okay let’s go! Here is the quote…
“The wall around the perimeter was child’s play. Six feet, but no spikes or barbed wire on top. Barbed wire is my nemesis. There’s a reason they use it in war zones.”
Do you know this one?

Have you guessed?

Here it is!

Zero Days by Ruth Ware

Summary from Goodreads:
Hired by companies to break into buildings and hack security systems, Jack and her husband, Gabe, are the best penetration specialists in the business. But after a routine assignment goes horribly wrong, Jack arrives home to find her husband dead. To add to her horror, the police are closing in on their suspect—her.
Suddenly on the run and quickly running out of options, Jack must decide who she can trust as she circles closer to the real killer.
I just finished this one and I really enjoyed it. It was so hard to put it down. It is action packed and the pacing is pretty fast and furious. It was still somewhat predictable, but I didn’t really mind. The main character Jack was so likable that I found myself rooting for her from the start. If you like fast paced thrillers with likable characters than this is one you really want to pick up.
