Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead by Elle Cosimano
Read by: Angela Dawe
Publication Date: February 2022
Summary from Goodreads:

Finlay Donovan is―once again―struggling to finish her next novel and keep her head above water as a single mother of two. On the bright side, she has her live-in nanny and confidant Vero to rely on, and the only dead body she’s dealt with lately is that of her daughter’s pet goldfish.
On the not-so-bright side, someone out there wants her ex-husband, Steven, out of the picture. Permanently. Whatever else Steven may be, he’s a good father, but saving him will send her down a rabbit hole of hit-women disguised as soccer moms, and a little bit more involvement with the Russian mob than she’d like.
Meanwhile, Vero’s keeping secrets, and Detective Nick Anthony seems determined to get back into her life. He may be a hot cop, but Finlay’s first priority is preventing her family from sleeping with the fishes… and if that means bending a few laws then so be it.
With her next book’s deadline looming and an ex-husband to keep alive, Finlay is quickly coming to the end of her rope. She can only hope there isn’t a noose at the end of it…

Even though I read this book before, I never wrote a review for it. I wrote ones for the other two, but not this one. So I decided I needed to complete the set and it also gives me an opportunity to talk about the audiobooks which I have been enjoying this time around.
I really enjoyed this second book in the series just as much as the first. It was a lot of fun watching Finlay and Vero make even bigger messes while trying to clean up some leftover ones from the first book. Mostly though she is just trying to keep her ex husband alive while juggling two kids, a writing career and two hot guys who just want to keep her warm at night. But seriously, I love Finlay even though she is a bit of a hot mess. I love how she can talk her way out of situations, even the really messy ones that she creates for herself.
Vero is the best friend that everyone wants. You know, the one who knows where all the bodies are because she helped you bury them. Vero and Finlay’s friendship gets stronger and better in this book, even though Vero is keeping some pretty bad secrets from Finlay. We don’t know much about Vero’s backstory, but we do learn a little bit more here, which begins to piece her together a little bit more.
Angela Dawe does an awesome job narrating the books. She has the perfect voice for Finlay, and does some good voices for the other characters as well. She also does a great job of conveying the range of emotions that all of the characters go through in this book, especially the heart pounding chase scene near the end. I felt how scared everyone was feeling during that one.
If you are looking for a serious thriller, this isn’t the book I would recommend. But if you want a book that is light, funny, full of heart and friendships then this is a series that you must give a chance. It is totally unrealistic, but a hell of a lot of fun, and the characters and the writing will leave you wanting more.
