Stacking the Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks! And audiobooks. Don’t forget audiobooks!

In other words, if you can read it or if it can be read to you – no matter how you got it – it belongs in Stacking the Shelves.

The Stacking the Shelves meme was originally hosted at Team Tynga’s Reviews. It is currently hosted by Reading Reality.

I wasn’t thinking that I would have many books to talk about today. I only had one book on hold to pick up this week, and no new NetGalley books to report on. But then when you least expect it, the books just start showing up!

My library has a little bookshop attached that is mostly for books donated to the library, but they don’t need or want them. So they end up in this bookshop for very cheap. Sometimes you can get some really great deals. Since Covid they haven’t been as open as they used to be, so I hadn’t been in in a while. But I happened to stop by this week and found three books to add to my ever growing stack! I probably won’t get to any of them anytime soon, but it is nice to know that I have them when I do want to read them.

I have been trying not to add more books to my NetGalley account, but when a favorite author’s book shows up there, I usually have to request it. That happened twice this week. I also decided to look for an audiobook ARC, and I am hoping I found another gem to listen to.

Books I have added to my bedside stack

Close to Shore is a nonfiction book that I got from the library. It is about a series of shark attacks that happened in 1916. What makes this an unusual case though is the shark swam 11 miles up a river to also attack people! I first learned about these attacks a few years ago through a middle grade historical novel, and I always wanted to learn more. So now I can.

Some of you may know, that Rick Riordan wrote a series of adult mystery novels set in Texas. He was actually beginning to make a bit of a name for himself with these novels, but then he struck gold with The Lightning Thief. I have read the first two and actually own three of them already and found them to be quite good. Most are not available in print, but you can still find them as ebooks. Anyways, sitting on the shelf in the library bookstore was this hard cover copy of the sixth book, Mission Road. I of course had to have it! It would have been perfect if it was signed, but alas no. I do plan at some point to read them all, maybe this is a sign that this is the year I should finally get it done.

The Last Heir to Blackwood Library was a book that I saw making the rounds on other blogs last year. I have it on my TBR to read, but it wasn’t high up on my list. But I couldn’t pass up the chance to get a copy so cheap and to support my local library too!

Sick Puppy was my one impulse buy at the library bookstore. It is getting harder to find some of Carl Hiaasen’s older books in print at the library, they only have them as ebooks or audiobooks and I don’t always have time to fit those in between all the newer books I want to read. So I just decided to purchase this one to have around the next time I am in the mood for one of his books.

ARCs I’ve added to my Netgalley account

Bless Your Heart is the audiobook ARC I decided to take a chance on. The reviews sound promising. Plus I love that cover. The story is based on a Romanian based mythology involving a vampire ghoul type of creature. Anyways, sounds funny and dark and totally something I would be into.

A Novel Love Story is of course a given request as soon as I saw it on my NetGalley feed. I can’t wait to dive into this romance with magical realism.

Slow Dance is another book I was looking forward to reading later this year when it came out, but I was lucky that I spotted it on NetGalley. This one sounds interesting and is a love story unlike any other.

I think this is a pretty good haul this week, although I probably won’t get to any of them anytime soon. The audiobook might end up next on my list, only because it comes out in early April. The shark book also will be sooner rather than later. But I am still excited that I get to read all of these wonderful books some day!

Until next time…

Happy Reading!
