Stacking the Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks! And audiobooks. Don’t forget audiobooks!

In other words, if you can read it or if it can be read to you – no matter how you got it – it belongs in Stacking the Shelves.

The Stacking the Shelves meme was originally hosted at Team Tynga’s Reviews. It is currently hosted by Reading Reality.

A couple of days ago I didn’t think I would have anything to post for today. None of my holds have arrived at the library and I hadn’t requested anything on Netgalley. But then at the last minute I found two books on Netgalley that I really wanted to read and when I went to drop off some library books, found two books just sitting on the shelf that I really wanted to read. So miracles do happen, well not really sure this qualifies as a miracle, but I’m happy something came through.

I also found out today that the library will be closing for about a month starting on Monday. They are not totally closing down, I can still drop off books and pick up holds and apparently there will be some books accessible to browse, but the main building will be closed. They are replacing some windows and doing some other minor repairs. I think they will have a similar setup to what they did during the pandemic, but we shall see. I’m not too miffed though. There are 51 branches in my library system and about 10 of them are within a 30 minute drive of my house. So I have plenty of places to browse if I feel the need.

Library books I have added to my bedside stack

Black Sun is the first book in the Between Earth and Sky series. This will be a reread, because I have the ARC for the third book coming out in June and I decided to refresh my memory of the first two books before tackling that one.

City of Bones is an old book by Martha Wells that was re-released in 2023. I have not read this one, but it sounds really good. So far I have loved all of her books, so I am sure this one will be great.

I realized today that I needed to continue with The Gentleman Bastard series. My library only has the electronic versions of the third book, The Republic of Thieves, so I decided to check out the audiobook. I don’t think they have the rest of the series though, so I may have to request that they get those as well.

ARC’s I’ve added to my Netgalley account

Death at Morning House is the new book by Maureen Johnson that comes out in August. I was really hoping for a new Truly Devious book, but this is good too. I have been stalking Netgalley ever since I heard about it, hoping it would be available, and that finally paid off.

The Love of My Afterlife was another one that I have been hoping to find on Netgalley. I always love me a good afterlife story so I will hopefully be enjoying this one. I love that cover too, so cheery and bright and it kind of compliments the other cover in a weird sort of way.

  1. I can sympathise with the library closure as mine has only just reopened after 7 weeks. Glad that you at least have some services though. I love it when you walk in and see books that you want to read just sitting on the shelf waiting for you. It does feel like a mini miracle. Happy reading.
