A 2024 Challenge Update!

We are halfway through the year and I thought it would be a good time to update how I am doing on my challenges. This post is only about the last three months, but if you want to see what books I did the first quarter of the year, take a look at my first Challenge Update post.

I have been keeping up with all of my challenges, and have been enjoying the books that I have picked. For the most part I have been trying to choose books published this year, but that doesn’t always work out for the prompts. I’ve linked the titles to their reviews or Goodread pages.

Buzzword Reading Challenge

April’s Prompt: Nature Words

The Malice of Waves: I had a hard time coming up with a recent book with nature words in the title, so finally settled on this older title. It was a good book and featured a lot of nature.

May’s Prompt: ‘Every’ in the title

Every Time I Go On Vacation Someone Dies: This was an audiobook ARC I picked up and enjoyed for the most part. I had a few issues with it, but I almost always do with cozy mysteries.

June’s prompt: Repeating words in the title

Right Here, Right Now: This was the perfect book for this prompt and my favorite of the group.

Epic Reading Challenge

April’s Prompt: A book that has been on your shelf forever.

Endless Water, Starless Sky: I read the first book in this series ages ago, but never got around to reading the second. I enjoyed it, so I was glad this prompt was here.

May’s Prompt: A book with a gorgeous cover

Song of the Six Realms: I just adore this cover, I just wished I had enjoyed the story more. It wasn’t a bad story, it just didn’t ever quite click for me.

June’s Prompt: A book outside your comfort zone

Starfish: This one had me stumped for awhile, as I pretty much read anything. But then I remembered that I don’t do novels written in verse. They just don’t work for me usually. But I have been successful with middle grade ones on audiobook. Starfish was a great book about bullying and body positivity. I loved it.

NonFiction reading Challenge

This one doesn’t have a monthly prompt, you just read nonfiction books based on a list of categories.

Literary Cats: (Pets) This was an interesting book, but didn’t really hold my attention. It reads like an english paper.

The Backyard Bird Chronicles: (Nature) I just adored this book about backyard birds. I loved all of the little stories the author told and her observations of the different species of birds. The illustrations were great.

I Know who You Are: (Science) This could also be in the true crime category, but because she goes heavily into the science behind what she does, that seemed to fit it better.

Picture of the Month Challenge

This is also a bingo game and I am happy to say that I have achieved a bingo!

April Prompt: Vintage

Penguin: When I first posted this picture I didn’t know who the artist was as there was no signage near the statue. I later learned that the artist is Leo Sewell. I don’t know the history about how this statue got to Seattle, but I found it a fascinating piece.

May Prompt: Just Right

Mama Duck and Ducklings: I found this mama and her babies in a large planter outside of a Starbucks. I thought it was a pretty funny place to make a nest, but mama obviously thought it was ‘just right!

June Prompt: Nowhere

Nowhere Bathtub: My husband and I were taking a hike on some conservation land that used to be a ranch. As we were walking we kept coming up on these bathtubs just sitting in the middle of nowhere, it was pretty hilarious, but those views were spectacular!

Hopefully I will be able to keep up this streak for at least the next three months. It might be tough though as a couple of the prompts have me stumped right now. But hopefully something will turn up soon.

I hope you are all enjoying your reading, and if you are doing challenges that they are going well for you. Until next time…

Happy Reading!
