My August 2024 TBR

Ack! The summer is half over! Although truth be told the summer here lasts well into September and sometimes even October before the rains come back so I am not really complaining. Plus, I have some really good books lined up to read in August so I can’t really complain about anything.

But before getting to my new books, I want to take a look on how I did on my July TBR. I read all but one of the books, so that is pretty good. Especially considering how many ARCs I had to read. The one I didn’t read, Beautyland, was totally on me. I had originally planned to listen to the audiobook, and even had it loaded and started listening to it. But I quickly realized it wasn’t going to work for me as an audiobook. The chapters were way too long (over two hour each, yikes!) and there were multiple characters telling the story. My brain just about blew up after listening for a half hour. But I could tell that it was a story I was going to like, so I returned the audiobook and placed a hold on the book. Now I just have a very long wait for it, which is why I chose the audiobook in the first place. Oh, well.

ARC’s I need to read:

William (9/10) is a science fiction, horror, thriller that just sounded too good to pass up. That cover also really caught my attention.

Buried Deep and Other Stories (9/17) is a collection of short stories by one of my favorite authors, so I just couldn’t say no to the offer to read it. It is also suppose to have a story set in the world of her next series, so really looking forward to that one.

We Solve Murders (9/17) is also by a favorite author and I am really excited to read this. It sounds like the start to another great series.

The Naming Song (9/ 24) has a cover that caught my attention and made me want to know more about it. Once I read the summary I was totally hooked and knew I had to read it.

The Thirteenth Child (9/24) is another fairy tale retelling by another favorite author. I can’t wait to immerse myself in this gender swapping version of ‘Godfather Death’. This is also another great cover! This one also fits the prompt for the Epics Reads challenge I am doing.

Other books I plan on reading

I came across Girls Like Us when I was looking for a book to fit the Buzzword Reading challenge prompt this month. I have to read a book with ‘like’ in the title. It also sounds really good as it is about an FBI agent who ends up investigating her father for murder.

Assassins Anonymous is an audiobook that I plan on listening to this month. It sounded really kind of funny as well as thrilling. I loved the idea of a 12 step program for reformed killers.

The Maidens is a book I planned on reading in July, but just ran out of time. I really am looking forward to diving into this dark murder mystery with the Persephone myth mixed in.

Break to You was another book that I totally missed until it came out this month. I love Neal Shusterman and try to read every book he writes. I’m not even sure what this is about, I just know I will enjoy it!

That is a lot of books, so I better get reading. I hope you all are having a great summer (or winter if you live south of the equator) and have been filling your days with good books. Until next time…

Happy Reading!
