July was a busy month with lots of family visiting and taking a trip to the east coast to see more of the family. But somehow I managed to read more this month than usual?! Not sure how that happened. I guess the few times that I had free, I was finding myself reading rather than doing anything else. Of course the long flights across the country helped, as did the almost two hour delay in Chicago!
Unfortunately, even though I finished 18 books, it was pretty mediocre reading. Nothing was too horrible, most just weren’t that memorable. That said, I thought I would try something new for my wrap up this month. Instead of listing all of the books I read, I made up four categories and chose three books for each of them to highlight. So let’s get to it!
My Favorite ARCs

Full Speed to a Crash Landing was such a fun and quick read. It was hands down my favorite book this month. Can’t wait to read the next one.
Death At Morning House was also a really good book that kept me turning those pages. A nice mystery with a great setting.
Haunted Ever After was such a cute romance. I loved the two main characters and the secondary characters were to die for!
Reading Challenge Books

49 Miles Alone was really good and certainly made me never want to go for a hike in the desert. Such a tough place to survive when things go wrong.
A Man Called Ove was really good and I quite enjoyed the audiobook. It didn’t make me cry, but that was ok. I still really enjoyed it and liked it better than the movie.
The Legendary Toad’s Place was a really fun look at a place where I spent some of my youth hanging out. I had no idea the impact this place had on the music scene though.
Favorite Library Books

The Prince & The Apocalypse was a book that I totally picked up on a whim at the end of the month, and I am so glad I did. It was a hoot and I just loved Wren. Can’t wait to read the next one which comes out soon.
How to End a Love Story was a very realistic look at a rather dysfunctional relationship. I enjoyed the characters and their romance even though I was sort of rooting for them not to have their HEA.
Sweet Nightmare ended up being a pretty good book. I had my doubts when I started it and almost didn’t continue with it. But I persevered and eventually I was glad I did.
Favorite Audiobooks

Murder Your Employer was a total hoot. I just loved the dry humor and the narrators were great. Neil Patrick Harris and Simon Vance are excellent.
The Ministry of Time was also a good listen with some excellent narrators. Both Katie Leung and George Weightman did excellent jobs with the story.
Freeze Frame is the fourth book in the Enzo Files series and I think my favorite. I just love Peter Forbes voice and he does a wonderful job with the different accents.

I think this new format is a keeper and I hope you enjoyed it. Let me know if you think I should add a category or two. Until next time….
I really like your new review format. It’s just a pity that this month was bit of a let down for reading. I’m hoping that Ministry of Time arrives from the Library soon. I’m also excited about Peter May’s new book set back on the Island of Lewis.

I probably would have if I hadn’t seen the movie, but it was all good.
