Stacking the Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks! And audiobooks. Don’t forget audiobooks!

In other words, if you can read it or if it can be read to you – no matter how you got it – it belongs in Stacking the Shelves.

The Stacking the Shelves meme was originally hosted at Team Tynga’s Reviews. It is currently hosted by Reading Reality.

I wasn’t sure that I was going to post today. I didn’t have any library holds come, no new ARCs to talk about, and no new books bought. But I did have a couple of books to return to the library, so I spent a few minutes looking around to see if anything peaked my interest. I wasn’t super keen on picking anything up as I still have a small stack of library books and a larger one of owned books that I want to whittle down, but I actually found a book to come home with me. (sorry that was a rather long winded explanation) I then decided that I should start my search for my next audiobook and found one that I have been wanting to read available. So, two books to talk about!

Library books I have added to my bedside stack

Summary from Goodreads:

Set in the same universe as the Adam Binder series, Rogue Community College is a delightful fantasy with lots of magic and mayhem … and more than a few dinosaurs.

Isaac Frost is an Undertaker, a magical assassin sent to infiltrate and destroy the elves’ new school for wayward practitioners.

His efforts are thwarted, however, by his attraction to another student—an elf immune to Isaac’s cynicism—and by the school’s chaotic nature. Worse than that, the school itself seems to be alive, forcing Isaac to ask himself how on earth he’s supposed to assassinate a building.

When Isaac hesitates, his client threatens to send another hitman—one who won’t discriminate between the intended target and the students Isaac is starting to think of as family.

I was perusing the new books display and my eyes landed on this book. I was immediately drawn in by the title, then it mentioned that it was set in the world of Adam Binder which made me pick the book up. I enjoyed the Adam Binder books, so once I read the summary I knew this book was coming home with me. Now the question is, will it go on the top or bottom of my library TBR stack?

ARCs I’ve added to my Netgalley account

No new ARCs this week. I am still kind of hoping that the books I requested a few weeks ago will come through, once everyone come back from the holidays, but I’m not that hopeful. One published this week and the other comes out next week. But you just never know, especially as they haven’t said no yet either.

Audiobooks

Summary from Goodreads:

Rival ornithologists hunt through England for a rare magical bird in this historical-fantasy rom-com reminiscent of Indiana Jones but with manners, tea, and helicopter parasols.

Beth Pickering is on the verge of finally capturing the rare deathwhistler bird when Professor Devon Lockley swoops in, capturing both her bird and her imagination like a villain. Albeit a handsome and charming villain, but that’s beside the point. As someone highly educated in the ruthless discipline of ornithology, Beth knows trouble when she sees it, and she is determined to keep her distance from Devon.

For his part, Devon has never been more smitten than when he first set eyes on Professor Beth Pickering. She’s so pretty, so polite, so capable of bringing down a fiery, deadly bird using only her wits. In other words, an angel. Devon understands he must not get close to her, however, since they’re professional rivals.

When a competition to become Birder of the Year by capturing an endangered caladrius bird is announced, Beth and Devon are forced to team up to have any chance of winning. Now keeping their distance becomes a question of one bed or two. But they must take the risk, because fowl play is afoot, and they can’t trust anyone else—for all may be fair in love and war, but this is ornithology.

This is one of the books from 2024 that I have been wanting to read. The audiobook became available and I have borrowed and downloaded it. I hope to start it early next week.

I am looking forward to seeing what books other people have picked up this week. I am always on the hunt for good stories. Until next time…

Happy Reading!
