Stacking the Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks! And audiobooks. Don’t forget audiobooks!

In other words, if you can read it or if it can be read to you – no matter how you got it – it belongs in Stacking the Shelves.

The Stacking the Shelves meme was originally hosted at Team Tynga’s Reviews. It is currently hosted by Reading Reality.

It has been a pretty quiet week, but with beautiful weather. I have spent the week doing work around the house and preparations for my trip next week. Mostly I had to get a new suitcase as my thirty year old one has finally started showing its age. My reading has been good this month. I have gotten all caught up on my library books. But my audiobooks have started to pile up again. It’s a good thing that I have been able to get through those fairly quickly. I also purchased two books this week, which is rather unusual for me.

Books I have added to my bedside stack

Best of All Worlds is the only library book I picked up this week. It is a YA science fiction from an author whose works I usually enjoy. It’s another trapped inside a dome story, but with a bit of a twist.

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil is of course the latest by V.E. Schwab. I preordered it, but then I read the ARC and unfortunately didn’t love it as much as I thought I would. But I still wanted a copy as I had watched her sign all of the books for the 1st printing on Instagram, so I just wanted to feel a part of that. Who knows? I may just reread this sometime and end up loving it!

I bought a copy of The Malevolent Seven because the next book in the series is coming out in August and I wanted to reread this one. And I also wanted to support the author. I don’t think his books are as popular here in the states as they are in other places, so just wanted to give his sales a boost. I also preordered the next book in the series. This is a fantasy about a misfit group of wizards saving the world.

ARCs I’ve added to my Netgalley account

A Curious Kind of Magic is the newest ARC that I have added to my stack. I first saw this in one of those Netgalley newsletters I think. I loved the cover and was intrigued by the title. I then read the blurb and was hooked. It also has some stunning reviews already, so I decided to give it a chance. It has that found family feel and it is a cozy fantasy. It comes out in November.

Audiobooks

The Summer I Ate the Rich will be my next audiobook. I just love that cover and title. This sounds like a really good read about zombies, Haitian culture and it takes a stab at rich people and their treatment of those that work for them. (pun intended 😉) Most of the reviews state that this isn’t really a horror novel, but other than that it was good. This is a full cast audiobook that I hope will be well done.

That is it for this week’s Stacking the Shelves. Don’t know if I will have anything to report next week, as I have no library books coming and I will probably miss my weekly visit anyways. There might be an ARC or an audiobook to report, we will just have to see. I look forward to finding out what you have been adding to your stacks. I always find a book or two to add to my growing TBR. Until next time…

Happy Reading!

  1. Nice haul. I loved the Spell Slinger series by De Castell but for some reason I didn’t really click with the characters in Malevolent Seven. A Curious kind of Magic definitely looks interesting.

  2. Awesome haul! I recently also added The Malevolent Seven to my shelves it sounds great! And ohhh A Curious Kind of Magic has really caught my eye now. I read and loved another Mara Rutherford book and anything that’s compared to Howl’s is indeed up my alley! 👀 Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
