Birthstone: (Black) Pearl

Happy Birthday June Babies! What a great month you were born into! And such a pretty birthstone that is not really a stone, well I guess they start out as a tiny piece of sand, but still. Well, anyways, last year I decided to feature covers with pearls on them, instead of doing the white covers. This year I decided to go with black covers because black pearls are so pretty. Pearls actually come in a variety of colors, but the black ones are my favorites. If you look at them closely they are similar to the white ones as they are not a true black but have some pearesence to them as well. I tried to capture that with these covers. I have read all of these and reviewed all but one of them. The titles are linked to my reviews.

Dark Moon, Shallow Sea is the first book in a great epic fantasy series. I really like this cover as well. It has a lot of depth to it, just like the story.
Book of Night is also the first book in a duology. This is an urban fantasy with some fabulous characters and wonderful world building.
Play of Shadows is the first book in the Court of Shadows series. It is another great epic fantasy series, but in this case the books could certainly be stand alones as well.

Her Last Breath is a psychological thriller by one of the masters. This one is a chase through a cave system where you are never sure who is the hunter and who is the prey.
The Twisted Ones is another mystery thriller with a supernatural twist. Another good one by one of my favorite authors.
The Crime Brulee was a fun cozy mystery that I read last year. It centers around a baking show competition set on the lands of an English manor. There is also a fun romance in this one.

I hope you enjoyed looking at all of these pretty black covers! I think I’m just not that attracted to white covers as I seem to have so few on my list. Maybe next year.
Until next time…
