A review for the upcoming YA novel by Mike Chen. This is his first foray into the young adult genre and it was a lot of fun to read. Of Sorcery and Science is a nice mix of science fiction and fantasy. Two teens, both chosen ones, use science to explain why magic is failing in the fantasy world they visit.
A review for the historical fantasy based on the life of Mary Anning. The Geomagician by Jennifer Mandula is a fun story full of science, magic and religion. I really enjoyed reading this reimagined life of Mary Anning and how fossils are used for magic.
A review for the nonfiction book Everything is Tuberculous by John Green. This is a book not only about the disease, but about heartbreak and hope and everything that the people that have this disease endure to finally be cured. Everything really is tuberculosis.
This is a review for the nonfiction book Field Notes From a Fungi Forager by Ashley Rodriguez. I really enjoyed this book that focuses on mushrooms and fungi that can be found around the Pacific Northwest. The author does a great job of telling how to identify the different species, but also includes ideas on how to cook them.
A review for the ARC for the upcoming middle grade novel, Bug Bandits by Jenni L Walsh. A fast paced story about a young girl trying to save her father’s insectarium, a bug museum, from a burglary. This is a story about friendship and science with a dash of adventure and a bit of mystery.
