Do you believe in an afterlife? What do you think happens after you die? This very intriguing new book by Gena Showalter will make you wonder and think about those questions. Showalter has created a world where people know what happens to their spirits when they die, depending on which kingdom they have aligned themselves with in their Firstlife, either Troika or Myriad. Children are expected to choose before their eighteenth birthday. If you have not chosen one of the kingdoms before you die you might end up in Many Ends. Many children align themselves with which ever kingdom their parents belong to. Then there are teens like Tenley Lockwood, who are unsigned and can’t decide which side to choose. In Tenley’s case, her parents send her away to Prynne Asylum, which is more like a medieval prison, where she is tortured and beaten into choosing a side. Some of the scenes in the asylum are not for the faint at heart. All of the things that she endures in the asylum only makes her stronger. Without getting into too much detail, there is a love interest, a lot of action and danger, and a lot of reflection and thought on Tenley’s decision.
