Sunday Confessions

Bookish Thought (1)

I was on vacation this past week.  My husband and I went down to southern California to visit our son who goes to school there.  We also went to Catalina Island for the first time.  It was a really nice place to visit, with a fascinating history and beautiful scenery.  Avalon, the only town on the island, didn’t have a book store, but they did have a library, right next to the sheriff’s office.  My husband and I made up a lot of dumb jokes about what happens in Avalon when you don’t pay your book fines.  The Court house was in the same complex which just added to the fun.  Here is a picture:

Unfortunately the library was closed while we were there so we couldn’t go in.  It didn’t look very big from the outside though.  It was very nice to get away from the cold, wet dark of the Pacific Northwest even for a few days.  I got some reading done as well, mostly on the plane ride down and back, but better than nothing.

Book Reviews

Monday: Missing by Kelley Armstrong.  I almost read this in one day.  I started it on Sunday, but didn’t get far.  Then I read it on the entire plane ride down and then finished it that night.  Very engrossing and hard to put down.

Tuesday: Me and Marvin Gardens by Amy Sarig King.  This I did read in one day.  It was short, but very good.  It has received some early Newbery buzz for next year’s award and I can see why.

Wednesday: Starfall by Melissa Landers. Very different from the first book, but still really engaging and a satisfying read.

Thursday: I think I will be doing a Top Ten list but not sure yet.  Sometimes work is very busy and tiring the first week back from a break.

Friday: This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab.   I haven’t quite finished this yet, but I now understand why so many people enjoy her books, WOW!

Currently Reading

The Fallen Kingdom by Elizabeth May.  This is the third and final book in the Falconer series.   It doesn’t come out until June though.  I have enjoyed the series, but I’m not sure how it will all end.

Shadowcaster by Cinda Williams Chima.  I just love this author’s work.  I have read every book she has written and I am so looking forward to this read.

The Goldfish Boy by Lisa Thompson.  Another book that has been receiving Newbery buzz.

The Thousandth Floor by Katharine Mcgee.  This was on my TBR from last year.  This will be my audiobook for the week.

Well that is all of my confessions for this week.  Please leave a comment if you have read any of these books and what you thought about them.  Also, I’d be interested in any other unusual libraries you may have seen.
