Top five wednesday (1)

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Lainey at GingerReads and Samantha at Thoughts on Tomes.  You can find the group on Goodreads.

This week’s theme is:

Book Wish List
— If you celebrate a gift-giving holiday this time of year, or even if you don’t, talk about the books or bookish items you have on your wish list!

This one was tougher than you would think.  I don’t often get books as presents, I think it is because everyone knows how much I read and they probably figure that any book they pick would be one I read already.  I do occasionally request books when they ask, but nothing came to mind immediately when I saw this prompt.  I also don’t really collect bookish items.  So I really had to think about how I was going to approach this one.

But as luck would have it, I started to see gift giving guides for book lovers on other blogs I follow and I was able to come up with a few things that I think I could really use.

1. Lumio Book Light

I first saw this light years ago when he was running a kickstarter to get enough money to make them.  I thought it was awesome then, and I still think so.  Don’t know where I would put it though, all of my side tables are covered in books, oops.

2. Novel Teas by Bag Ladies Teas

Novel teas

I am an avid tea drinker and when I first saw this tea on Erika Robin reads, I just knew I needed some.  Each tea bag has a literary quote on it.  What a fun way to start the morning.  The Bag Ladies Teas website has lots of other fun teas too.

3. Socks

Shh I'm Reading

I have seen lots of good book related socks but these really caught my eye the other day.  I am usually wearing my Uggs when I am at home reading, but sometimes in the summer my feet get too warm, so I can see myself slipping this pair on.  Or I might wear them to bed on those cold winter nights.

4. Aluminum Book marks

I have a very nice wooden bookmark that my husband gave to me years ago, that I use almost exclusively.  But when I saw these today on Erika Robyn Reads, I knew they were going on this list.  (Although, alas it looks like they are no longer available.)  Still I really like them and maybe there will be another set for sale soon.

5.  Read Harder (A Reading Log)

read harderI get the BookRiot newsletter and they have been advertising this book the last few days.  It looks like an interesting way to read a bigger variety of books.  There are only 12 challenges so that would be one a month or so. If you have never been to BookRiot’s blog, I highly recommend it.

Here is the descriptive blurb:

Created by Book Riot, an online destination devoted to people who live to read, this smartly designed reading log consists of entry pages to record stats, impressions, and reviews of each book you read. Evenly interspersed among these entry pages are 12 challenges inspired by Book Riot’s annual Read Harder initiative, which began in 2015 to encourage readers to pick up passed-over books, try out new genres, and choose titles from a wider range of voices and perspectives. Indulge your inner book nerd and read a book about books, get a new perspective on current events by reading a book written by an immigrant, find a hidden gem by reading a book published by an independent press, and so much more. Each challenge includes an inspiring quotation, an explanation of why the challenge will prove to be rewarding, and five book recommendations that fulfill the challenge.

I might just have to buy this one for myself!

As always please stop by the Goodreads group and see what other people have come up with.

Is there anything you are hoping to get this holiday season?
