First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?
- Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
- Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
- Finally… reveal the book!

“The night Kate Harker decided to burn down the school chapel, she wasn’t angry or drunk. She was desperate.”

Do you know this one?

It is an older book….

By a well known author…

Have you guessed?

Ok, I’m just going to tell you….

Ready?

Here it is ……

Did you guess? I chose this one today, because later on this afternoon, I’m going to be watching Neil Gaiman interview Victoria Schwab! I am so excited 😍 ! I’m not sure if you can still register for the event or not but here is a link to the info.
This was the first book that I read by Ms. Schwab and I just loved it, and now I have read all of her books and can’t wait for her new book that come out in the fall.
