Monthly Wrap Up: October 2020

Well this was quite the month. Things are finally settling into a routine at work so that makes life a little less stressful. Hopefully that will continue into November and I will continue to have time to keep up with my reading.

This month I read 12 books, which is about average for me. A couple of them were quite good too. Half of them were ARCs as well, which is unusual. I am just about done with my NetGalley commitments for the year, so I should have more time for other books till the end of the year.

Let’s take a look at all the books I read in October.

The month started off really strong. All of these were good solid books.

Black Sun was pretty intense and such a good read. It was a bit slow at times though, but I am really looking forward to the next one.

The City We Became was such a good book. Really interesting concept of cities having avatars that protect them. Highly recommend if you like your urban fantasy to be a bit on the cerebral side.

StillHouse Lake was pretty intense, but a great read. I really enjoyed all of the characters and the plot was riveting.

Instant Karma was also a lot of fun. It was a nice romantic comedy with a light touch of magic. Loved all the cute sea creatures too and a little bit of a mystery thrown in.

Lies Like Poison was an interesting mix of fairy tales and a murder mystery. I enjoyed the characters and the plot.

The Cousins was also a great mystery that will keep you guessing until the end.

Killman Creek was even more intense than the first book. There were times when even I was beginning to suspect that Gwen wasn’t as innocent as she wanted everyone to believe.

A Plague of Giants was perhaps the longest audiobook ever. I enjoyed it, but it was a bit slow moving and so many characters that it was hard to keep track of them, especially at the beginning.

This is Not the Jess Show was okay. It was a bit short which I think was part of the issue. Not enough time for you to become invested in the characters. But the plot was fast moving so it was hard to put down.

A Universe of Wishes has some wonderful short stories, several of which I really enjoyed. There were a couple that I didn’t really like though.

Throne of Jade was great. I loved the want dragons are woven into the cultures and history of this alternate earth. The battle scenes are well done as well. Can’t wait to see where this series is going next.

The Library at Mont Char was really good but quirky. It got a bit weird at the end, but I still ended up really liking it. Some pretty disturbing scenes though so it is not for the faint at heart.

Well that was my reading month. I hope yours was equally good. All of these books were pretty good reads. I don’t think I had a favorite this month although Black Sun and The City We Became are certainly up there as favorites for the year.

What was your favorite book in October? Leave me a comment and let me know.
