Monthly Wrap-up December 2020

Happy New Year!

Well I certainly don’t know about you all, but I am certainly glad this month and year are finally over. It was a really good reading month though. I got 17 books read and all of them were good solid reads with a couple that I really loved. Let’s take a quick look back at what I read.

A Reaper at the Gates was better the second time around. The audiobook is really good as well and one I would recommend.

The Other Side of the Sky was better than I thought it would be, I found it to be a nice mix of fantasy and science fiction.

City of the Plague God was really good and I quite enjoyed learning about this mythology.

Empire of Ivory was also a really good audiobook. I loved their adventures in Africa and learning about how dragons are treated and how important they were to the people there.

The Beautiful was a bit different than the usual vampire story but I really enjoyed it. And that cover just fits it so well.

The Devil and the Dark Water was such a good book and I really enjoyed it. It had some really good twist and turns to the mystery and that ending was so unexpected!

Victory of Eagles was also really good. Poor Laurence is really struggling in this one, but it was such a delight to finally have Temeraire narrating some of the story. Loved his relationships with the other dragons and his negotiations with the government for the better treatment of dragons.

The Damned was pretty good, though I think the first book was better. Not sure about the ending either, I think I missed something important, but even rereading it didn’t help. Love that cover though.

A Sky Beyond the Storm was the perfect ending for this series. I was hoping for a bit more from Keris’s character, but overall a very satisfying ending.

The Lion of Mars was a delightful story that I really enjoyed.

I absolutely adored Super Fake Love Song. It was such a fun read with great characters and a really fun plot.

Amari and the Night Brothers did not disappoint and I am looking forward to getting it into the hands of my students.

The End of the World is Nigh was an interesting story that I found hard to put down.

The Burning Kingdoms was a really good ending for this series. I truly enjoyed the characters and the world. This one was a bit more gruesome than the others though.

Finally I got my hands on Tongues of Serpents, not the audiobook though, that came after I was half way through the ebook. From looking at the reviews, this is the one least liked by everyone, but I really liked it. Loved the bunyip story line but would have liked a bit more about them.

The Never Tilting World was just as good as the first time around. I did the audiobook for this one and it was really good. Can’t wait to dive into the next book!

A Question of Navigation was the perfect way to end this year. It was pretty funny and I must say us humans can kick ass when we want!

I haven’t decided if I want to do a post about the my whole reading year. I read so many good books this year that I might have a hard time choosing favorites. But never say never. I hope to at least get more reviews up next week for some of the books I read this month, so keep an eye out for those.

Here’s to a new and hopefully better year! I wish everyone a healthy and certainly happier New Year!
