The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. IT was relaunched on February 15, 2013 by Billy@Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.
This week’s prompt is:
Do you post negative reviews? Do you promote those reviews if you post? (submitted by Heather @ MM Romance Reviewed)
I try to not write negative reviews. If I didn’t particularly like a book, then I either won’t write a review for it, or will try to write something positive or neutral.
This is particularly tricky when it is an ARC that I didn’t like. I try to be honest about what I didn’t like and why, but I also try to say at least one positive thing. But no matter what I do try to write a review for every ARC I’ve read. I can only think of one instance that I didn’t write a review because the book was really awful. I did send a comment to the publisher as to why I wasn’t writing a review.
Reading is just so personal that I hate to really be negative about a book. Just because I didn’t like it, doesn’t mean someone else won’t love it. I often will say that in my review when it is something that just didn’t float my boat.
I am looking forward to seeing what other people have to say about this topic!
It’s tricky finding that line between being honest but also being aware that other people might like it and the author has spent months or years writing it.
