Monthly Wrap-Up: September 2022

I was hoping to read at least 12 books in September and I am happy to say that I surpassed that goal, but it was only by one book. But I read a lot of long ones this month, three over 500 pages and one over 400. The rest were in the 300s. For the most part I enjoyed all of the books I read this month. And for those of you keeping track, I managed to read all of the books on my September TBR.

Books I read in September

Dead Man’s Hand was a good start to a really interesting new urban fantasy series. I really liked the 80’s cop movie feeling to the whole thing.

The Windup Girl was a pretty intense science fiction story set in Bangkok. There were some serious themes running through this one.

I really enjoyed The Library of the Unwritten. I liked the characters and the story. I plan on continuing this series soon.

Poster Girl was really good. I enjoyed the characters and the story was really well done. This is a standalone but I hope to see more stories set in this world.

The Murder of Mr. Wickham was fun, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I was more familiar with Austin’s books.

Deadbeat Druid was really good and a great ending for the series. I really liked this series as a whole.

Our Lady of Mysterious Ailments was also really good. I really like the characters and the setting and the story was well done.

The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy was probably my favorite read this month. I just loved Hart and Mercy too and the rest of the characters. The story was sweet and the world was great.

This is What Happened was totally not what I was expecting, but ended up being such a good read. I still can’t quite get over that ending.

Sign Here was also not quite what I was expecting. The ending felt a little rushed and not thoroughly explained but I really enjoyed the descriptions of hell.

Stain was a good retelling of the Princess and the Pea story, but it just went on for too long. I lost interest by the end. The narrator didn’t help, it didn’t feel like it was a good match for the story.

A Man with One of Those Faces was a lot of fun. Loved the characters and the story was really interesting. This is another series that I need to continue soon.

Gilded was a reread and I enjoyed it just as much the second time around. I can’t wait to read the next one, Cursed which comes out in November.

I am hoping that I can get caught up on my reading. As of this writing I am three books behind on my Goodreads goal of reading 180 books this year. I am hoping to gain some ground in October. With the days getting darker by the time I get home from work, I will have more time for reading in the evenings. I am also going to be on the lookout for some shorter books. I have been reading far too many long books lately.
