Summary from NetGalley:

You’re invited to the murder mystery party of the year! Fans of the hit series A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder will love Pip’s final detective case in this mystery novella from #1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Jackson.

Six suspects. Three hours. One murder…

Pip is not in the mood for her friend’s murder mystery party. Especially one that involves 1920’s fancy dress and pretending that their town is an island called Joy. But when the game begins, Pip finds herself drawn into the make-believe world of intrigue, deception and murder.

But as Pip plays detective, teasing out the identity of the killer clue-by-clue, the murder of the fictional Reginald Remy isn’t the only case on her mind …

Confession:

This will be a short review as this was a very short but such a fun novella.

I just loved seeing Pip and her friends in this very engaging novella that takes place before the events of the series. She is such a fun character to spend time with and I had forgotten how quirky some of her friends were.

I thought it was really interesting that Pip didn’t really want to attend this murder mystery party, but once she got there and began to think about the clues she really started to get into it. And of course leave it to her to totally read into the clues and make it way more complicated than it is. But I kind of agreed with her, the company’s solution was way too simple given all of the clues. I was totally buying into Pip’s solution to the murder and was just as disappointed in the truth as she was.

This really was a fun, short little story, that I recommend if you have read the series. Even if you haven’t read the series this is a fun story to start with. It sets up the series well and it gives a glimpse of the characters from the series in a more relaxed setting.
