GoodReads Monday

This weekly meme was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners. It is now being hosted by Budget Tales Book Blog. To participate, choose a random book from your GoodReads TBR and show it off. Which sounds easy enough until you have to decide how to choose that book! I think I will use a different way each week, like picking a color or number of pages. I will let you know each week how I chose the book and then something interesting about it, like how it ended up on the list or why I want to read it. Got it? Okay let’s get started.

Happy Monday! This week I started looking at my Goodreads to read list in alphabetical order, (Don’t ask me why, it’s a librarian thing) and decided that I would start choosing books for this post using the titles in ABC order. So, this week I will start with A, and then next week will be a B title, then a C, you get the jist. This will make choosing books a bit easier for me. I will not be looking at those pesky articles at the beginning of the titles (you know, a’s and the’s), which if you know anything about alphabetizing and book cataloging get ignored all the time.

This week’s pick is one that is coming out tomorrow and I am really looking forward to reading it. It sounds really good and already has a pretty high rating on Goodreads.

All the Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby

Publication Date: June 6, 2023

Summary from Goodreads:

Titus Crowne is the first Black sheriff in the history of Charon County. A former FBI agent and security expert, Titus came home to take care of his father and look out for his troubled younger brother. He ran for Sheriff to make a difference, especially in the Black community, which has so often been treated unfairly by the police.

But a year to the day after his election, a school shooting rocks the town. A beloved teacher is killed by a former student, and as Titus attempts to deescalate and get the boy to surrender, his deputies fire a fatal shot.

In the investigation, it becomes clear that the student they shot had been abused by the dead teacher, as well as by unidentified perpetrators. The trail leads to buried bodies—and secrets. While Titus tries to track down a killer hiding in plain sight, while balancing daily duties like protecting Confederate pride marchers, he must face what it means to be a Black man wearing a police uniform in the American South.

I also love that cover! There is a long list of holds at the library for this one already, so I won’t be getting my hands on it anytime soon, but hopefully by the end of the summer. Next week’s pick will one with a title that starts with the letter B. Until next time…

Happy Reading!
