Well August is finally over! It was the longest month this year. It was so busy with packing and moving and unpacking. But we are finally basically moved. I still have quite a bit of unpacking to do, but nothing urgent, so I can take my time.
Reading wise it was a pretty good month. Nothing super exciting, but nothing horrible either. There were quite a number of books between 3 and 4 stars though, and a couple of them were ones I really wanted to love. But that is just how things go sometimes. I did read all of the books on my TBR and managed to read all of my challenge books this month.
August was very much the month for audiobooks. I spent almost everyday driving back and forth between houses and so had lots of time for listening. Seven of the 15 books I read this month were audiobooks and most of them were fun to listen to.
Favorite ARCs
Well Versed was a wonderfully sweet romance that I really enjoyed. I really loved the two main characters and their second chance romance was well done.
The Henchperson’s Guide to Unionizing was also a lot of fun to read. I enjoyed the found family and how they all worked together to stand up to their respective bosses.
The Velvet knife was a tad disappointing, but still a really well done mystery. It was fun to hang out with Stevie and her friends one more time.
Reading Challenge Books
99 Ways to Die and How to Avoid Them was my nonfiction read for the month. It was very informative and interesting. The audiobook was well done as well.
Hot Girl Murder Club (Buzzword Reading Challenge) was a very well done thriller that had me guessing to the end about some of the mystery. Great revenge story as well.
We Already Dug the Grave (Buzzword Cover Challenge) wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be, but was still a page turner. I liked the supernatural element but wish that had been a more prominent part of the story.
Favorite Audiobooks
The Exquisite Torment of Loving Your Enemy was my favorite audiobook this month. I just adored both of the readers and they really brought the characters to life. I so enjoyed listening to this in my car where I didn’t feel embarrassed to laugh out loud.
Green City Wars was also a well done audiobook. The reader’s voice really added to the atmosphere of this noir style story. He also did a fabulous job with all of the various animal voices.
The Spellshop was a lot of fun to listen to as well. The reader also did a great job with character voices and with especially with the inner dialogue of the main character. I will probably be reading the other books in this series when I get a chance.
Well that is August taken care of. September promises to be an awesome reading month. Hopefully I will have more time for reading now as well. Until next time…
